I've seen a few (enemy) spec-ops specialising outfits recently. Last night we dropped on a base with a pretty hefty public platoon and were holding it quite nicely until a spec-ops styled outfit regrouped and pushed us out.

I definitely think we should be marketing ourselves as having a specific purpose in game, fast response or whatever (though tbh we could do with getting better at that :P) - there's no way we can compete with the big outfits for mass teamplay etc.

I'd be quite interested in an air squad. Quite a few of us seem to be getting a lot better in reavers, and working as a team of reavers - I reckon we could make quite a bit of difference in a fight since most people in the air act like lone wolves.

Great idea, the problem being that it's immediately exclusive - I have no interest in flying reavers, for example. I would happily join in in some kind of pimped out AA Gal, but then you're having to assign specific roles to people.

Well I don't see any reason why an air squad couldn't be part of a public platoon, for example. Or like you said, a galaxy - I've never flown a galaxy, but I was gunning in Inverslaw's one the other day and had an insane amount of fun, racking up a tonne of dead giraffes. Protected by half a dozen reavers a well certed galaxy could be a tide changer.

Oh, I agree. With a bit of working out we could put together something awesome. I might have a fiddle with an all AA gal loadout at some point.

An Air Squad would be great and an organised group of as little as 3 ESF can totally annihilate enemy air.
IT and I were getting some trouble with a Mossie wolfpack the other day, they kept diving out of the sky wherever we went and could wreck our Lib in a couple of seconds.

Also, while not everyone wants to fly Reavers, we do have quite a few good pilots so we could really make an impact.

I think things would work best as a dedicated air squad performing Close Air Support as part of a wider platoon.
This prevents the problem of the air squad just wandering around looking for targets and being totally detached from what the ground squads were doing.
This would even work with a public platoon.

Part of the problem for air is identifying targets, so the PL would need to call in air strikes on specific targets/areas for Libs and A2G Reavers. The A2A Reavers could then run cover against enemy air in support of the ground squads and Libs. Ideally some of the ground crew might operator as anti-anti-air commandos, targeting any Burster MAXes, turrets, etc.

One problem we would have to work out is an organised, disciplined way of picking up targets.
The biggest danger when trying to dogfight anywhere that you have air superiority is avoiding collisions with all the allied ESFs and Libs.

Yes, I'd be very interested in structured air play. I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to try out, and the past few weeks I have actually made a habit of being a wingman, usually for you Evanzan actually, and while I can't speak for you, it's improved both my longevity and my accuracy a lot. I'd like to see if we could fly in formations as such that one formation is always capable of almost instantly protecting the other. All it would take is 3 reavers flying at someone chasing the other formation to freak them out and get them to break off, but it'd also probably secure a kill.

Well I'd definitely be up for some air based shenanigans. Perhaps we could roll with a couple of gal gunships/Libs with a decent Reaver escort.

Plus all this chat is making me hard about the much rumoured gal variants - AWACS Gal, AMS gal etc.

Given the number of certs I suspect I've got in my Reaver I could do with spending some more time actually flying it, so count me in for any air-flyness. Good A2A should not be underestimated - you can literally lock and kill other ESFs without them ever finding out where you're shooting them from if you're good (also, cert reload speed for A2A as it locks quicker than it can reload last time I checked).

I take it anyone who flies has noticed that it's been made much easier to navigate in the air now as faction colour-coded base type icons have been added? Good for me as I often lose my bearings when flying.

Well ground targets could be set by smoke signals actually.

Awesome job tonight guys. We won pretty much everything for a change. Great fights with our RPS brothers and sisters and that great final flank against the BRTD armour will surely be remembered!

I am trying to recreate the route we took with the tanks, so please correct me if I am wrong:

    start
    Zurvan Pump Station
    Gravel Pass
    Blackshard Iridium Mine
    Stronghold
    Feldspar Canyon Base
    Old Stockpile
    Rust Mesa
    Crimson Bluff Tower
    Pallisade (south)
    Ceres Hydroponics
    Seabed Listning Post
    Indar Comm Array
    Indar Excavation Site

And then we found the BRTD mostly afk in their prowlers. I think we should more often take long routes to get to our objectives, seems to work nicely.

Also the meeting at Old Stockpile was funny as I suspect 252 was expecting vanu maggriders and instead a collum of vanguards came thundering down the road from the Vanu Warpgate Direction.

No doubt the hour or so I fought for freedom last night was the primary reason for this...

It was brief but fun last night, I may come fight for you guys tonight too. You're like RPS in the early days before we had HR departments, lawyers and payroll, it'll be nice to fight for smaller teams where I know everyone's name again before tomorrows clunk-a-thon CTA.

Looks like the TR are busy on Indar as we speak - just checked PS2 maps and it shows 45% TR pop there.

Dominicus: the route definitely looks right up to Crimson Bluff Tower, can't remember the rest. Highlight for me was 3-shotting a Lib with the Vanguard main gun (then getting unceremoniously wasted by a Mosquito and an AV base turret, but we don't speak about that).

It's a shame our resident FRAPS-Master-at-arms Ayam wasn't there to capture the BRTD incident. Was anyone recording that?

Yea I was thinking that at the time, would've been good for the next moments montage. Unfortunately I wasn't capping, I should really look into giving FRAPS affinity on a certain core so it doesn't interfere with gameplay and I can record. Oh, also an infinite hard drive
