Erm Miller appears to be down atm (or maybe capped?), any backup plan if it isn't up by 7.30?

Good game tonight folks. Had 3 full squads by the end, thats a good 38 players. What started as a heroic defense of the tower at peris amp station soon became a full blown armoured counter attack from our warpgate. We then pushed north, successfully taking the home (As declared by me!) of the rotrs, the palisade.

Great night was had by all I hope, see you all next week!

First night in the game, didn't really know what I was doing I just followed the waypoints and listened in. Great fun though, thank-you for leading.
The game is a lot of fun but appears to also be a massive grind (or is that me?), some of the goodies seem a heck of a lot of hours away for someone who can afford maybe 4-5 hours a week.

Ignore the goodies. I don't even know what's available, nor particularly care, and I've been doing fine. If you see unlocking things or grinding for arbitrary numbers as the point of the game, sure, it probably would take a while, but you can do that in literally any other MMO. This is fun because it plays well, not because it rewards you with trinkets like you're a performing dog.

To be honest, I didn't have much fun tonight. It was the least fun I've had playing so far, in fact. Spamming 200 tanks at another 200 tanks (or 50 jets) gets boring really quickly, and the most fun I had was when I spawned at a halfway point that was under attack, planning to tidy up, then meet everyone there instead of spawning with the convoy 300 miles away. If I wanted to do nothing for 90% of the game, I'd be playing Arma instead.

I hope it's not like that every week?

There is an issue with PS2 that the most fun is usually found by avoiding the zerg as much as possible, because while at first the novelty of massive tank/air battles leaves you in awe, it rapidly turns into a numbers battle where each individual component has little impact. Like you, I tend to have the most fun when fighting the smaller skirmishes over outposts rather than the massive fights over bio labs/tech plants (still think bio lab fights are just horrible) because it feels like you personally, are actually accomplishing something. Though saying that assaulting tech labs at night where infantry can move across the open ground without being tank food is quite fun.

The infantry sections were the most fun, definitely. A wild but lost tower defence and a fairly cool tower takeover with 1/3 of the platoon fending off magriders from an adjacent valley down a funnelled path were my highlights. I enjoyed the scale of the tank column, but when our herd intertwined with the other herd, it was messy.

There weren't any leap out OMG moments that eve, and I think we're learning what works and what doesn't in a large platoon, I'm only used to being in a skirmishing squad from prior FFs. I can see a lot of potential for mixing up air and land units simultaneously next time, which will be a little more difficult to manage tactically but may inject that bit more diversity into the mix.

Definitely think we need more skyguards.

For me as a bloody noob (and as far as I could see, there were some of us), the problem was, that it's still quite a bit of work to figure out what to do, where to shoot, where to go to. That makes it just a bit more difficult to play effectively and actually enjoy the game (and will often get you unexpectedly killed too). As far as I'm concerned, that's just something I'll get used to with playing.

That said, I did have a lot of fun. The tank column was just great, you guys were friendly and it was a pleasure to shoot some stuff with you. I'm looking forward to the next Fridays

It was a good night. Thanks go to Wafflynumber for his heroic leadership!

PS2 seems a bit much for my computer at the moment, the game became practically unplayable at points when there was a lot going on (read: stuck in the middle of a massive tank column). Fortunately I've just ordered a new PC which should hopefully be up and running for next week!

However, apologies do go out to those affected (HammerfistXI, Harlander, Ayam, Tehk) by inability to drive a tank at points last night!
I'm still not quite sure why a bunch of us suddenly blew up though. :-(

Looks like we will be able to form quite the force on a Friday night though.
If we use the squad chat channels on Mumble, is it possible for Squad Leaders/Platoon Leader to talk to each other?
It might be good to split up the squads a bit more and even specialise them (mixing up air and land units as Ayam says, each in a special squad).
Looking forward to next week though.

Yeh that's ok to a point but it did start to appear that some of those goodies are essential. One thing that stood out last night was we were extremely vulnerable to air attack, there were several calls for skyguards. I had a quick look for the skyguard (not knowing wtf it was), and was alarmed at the price of it.
OK so I didn't know which way to run let alone point my gun half the night, but in the engagements I did participate in I felt vastly underpowered.

That all said, I'm enjoying it, and actually I may well put some money into it. If it keeps me away from Eve online it is a worthy investment.

Was good fun last night chaps- thanks for organising it Waffles.

The doomed tower defence was great fun, though somewhat too reminiscent of Guild Wars 2 WvW for me. I haven't seen too much of the maps but those narrow canyons must be one of the worst places to roll tank columns surely? A wedge of Vanguards charging across frozen lakes would be a different proposition I'm sure.

I threw some cash at the unlocks to try and find a weapon I wasn't hopeless with, and spent a lot of time in Skyguards and haven't found them very effective. Bullet travel is slow enough to make leading targets a pain, especially nippy things like Scythes, and AOE and damage aren't great. I don't think airborne enemy have much to fear from them in their current state, which is a shame as all the Vanu scum have certed Scythes right now. I have a vain hope the infantry anti-air missiles might be a bit more effective...

Well this is the thing for the time being (next couple of weeks or so) Air is going to be really dominant as it was early beta, but once more people save up and reach the 1000 cert mark to unlock either Skyguards (480 certs in beta), Dual Burster MAXs (48 certs :/) or Anti-Air Homing Missiles (98 certs...) for Heavy Assault, the status quo will start switching back to how it was where you really can't over reach in a scythe/reaver etc. without being instantly destroyed.

But as people have mentioned, this is a long fucking grind to unlock one single item. So I think I'll be pimping out a sunderer for the time being with Spawn Point and proximity vehicle healing to keep the passive cert farm rolling while I enjoy my infantry combat which has a fairly even playing field when un-upgraded.

Next time I'd suggest splitting channels and using some sort of whisper list restriction.

main problem with skyguards is that, atmo it take a significant amount of focused aa-fire or stupidity on the part of the pilots to take out one aircraft quickly

A good fun night, but I agree the aircrafts where frustrating from time to time. I think I'll get my sunderer even further pimped out. Need more armor in the front section so it can stay ahead of the tank collumn :P
