Tabletop RPG funtimes: Traveller

I'm running tabletop RPG's again.

Via mumble. Other information to follow, Traveller is a little like "Firefly THE TABLETOP RPG" except it was there first. I've got 4 spaces, I can push to five if demand is high.

It'll be irregular, A two hour session a fortnight is likely - To fit when people aren't working. GMT evenings are the most likely timeframe.

I'd be interested but I'm not familiar with the system and have only briefly played table top games with VoIP before.

Not a problem - If you have some experience with another system you'll find Traveller to be a little daunting at character creation, but afterwards pretty similar. [Death happens alot though.]

Which version of Traveller are you going to use? I think there's been like 8 of them, including a GURPS and a D20 flavour

I'll be using the Mongoose version of Traveller, from 2008. There are less deaths during character creation - and plenty of supplements.

Oh, while I remember: I'll be answering one question a day about the flavour of the world - Might be worth continuing to check in if you're on the fence about joining. For today, let me lay out the start of the world.

The Galaxy, 500 years after the first FTL jump.

Five hundred years after Humans left earth behind and took to space, the galaxy is continuing just fine. A war is being fought across the galaxy, a rumoured disagreement between two generals leading the one great "Earth Defence Force" shattering into two bickering sects, the Peoples Defence League and the Union of Galactic Protection. The PDL and the UGP have been at war for over 200 years - stalling technological progression and leaving civilians across the galaxy surprisingly unprotected, and mostly fending for themselves.

Laws change from world to world, and people drift from planet to planet looking for work and food, while the more savvy run their own cargo ships, transporting passengers and goods around the system - if the price is right. Against the background of the war, many ships make their living transporting goods of all kinds, while Wardens run their individual planets and try to keep everyone alive.

Basically, you guys will, depending on your rolls - Own one of these ships or work on one of these ships. I'll come back and answer questions about the setting tomorrow.

Sounds good to me. I'm quite intrigued by the idea of doing RP through Mumble tbh, should be an interesting experience.

Ah, Traveller...the first time I played, I lost five characters before we even started. Really awesome character creation process. The CRPG was good, too, IIRC.
