Yeah, sorry about the whole 'living in the southern hemisphere' thing. Will be available on the weekend as much as I'm able. If you see me on Steam and I'm not playing XCOM already ('cause that'll probably be a tournament match), hit me up.

Apparently Cabal_ could hear my frustration about that kill through my mic, which was hanging half a room away. (I wasn't even aware it was activated) :-p So yeah, that could've gone differently if I hadn't been such a crap player :p
Also I played my match against Steef earlier:
Lacessit vs Steef
Round 1: A tight one, my very first match of MP ever. A win for me nonetheless. Steef came out with two sectoid commanders, but my psi warrior was a match for them. Lots of losses from me (5) but in a tense finale, I flanked/runned and gunned his remaining Commander.
Round 2: A resounding win for Steef. My psi warrior gets squad sighted/headshotted, the rest of my units follows quickly. Steef only takes one loss.
Round 3: I go for a machine gunner, a medic and a sectoid commander (hey, I just don't know any better ok?) things start of badly when the medic gets reaction shotted to death in the first exchanges of the encounter. They then get slightly better as I mind control one of the smoke jumpers, kill two with the mind controlled one and send them back. My heavy then takes a shot with the rocket at where he thinks the remaining jumpers are. He is wrong (but EVER so slightly, it would appear later). That loses me the bout. Steef rallies well and first takes out the sectoid commander, then the heavy.
So congrats Steef and Cabal_, Now I only have a trashing to look forward to from Sotto voce!

So just finished playing against Noirdeathe on the Bar map.
Won two matches against him. Didn't note the casualties but here are some bloodstained shots:
Remains to finish my match with Tail.
One thing, ONE thing I really hate about this game is alloy cannons and stimpacks. Almost unstoppable if your team is as cack-handed as mine and miss 1-3 overwatch shots. Once they get within your troops, boom, dead.
Need to be more expensive, alien units are utterly worthless.
Match Sotto Voce vs Lacessit (Police Station) - 2:0
Round 1 - Sotto Voce wins (played on nov 24th)
Sotto Voce squad (9600 pts):
2x Chryssalid
2x Thin Man
2x Sectiod
Lacessit squad (10000 pts):
1x Psi Warrior Assault (1x LPR, 1x Carapace Armour)
1x Sectiod Commander
1x Sectoid
My all-alien team composition was risky, but this time it paid out as my opponent was fielding two mindcontrollers (chryssalids are immune to psi powers). I lost one of each alien type.

Round 2 - Sotto Voce wins (played on nov 24th)
Sotto Voce squad (9800 pts):
2x Gunner Assault (2x LPR, 2x Skeleton Suit, 2x Stimpack)
3x Sectoid
Lacessit squad (9950 pts):
1x Psi Warrior Assault (1x LPR, 1x Titan Armour)
1x Medic? Support (1x Medikit?)
2x Sectoid
Switched to double stim assaults again. They managed to take out both of Lacessit's soldiers in the initial rush. I lost one sectiod.

Hey people!
Was waiting to meet TailSwallower today from 10am to 1pm (GMT) like we agreed but he didn't show up. I'm going to wait for him again tomorrow morning and if he can't make it I'll just give everyone victory by default against Tail so that we can move on to the next stage. As I understand everything else has already been played.
Sorry guys. I wasn't able to get on my computer at all over the weekend (it's not Monday night here). My girlfriend planned a bunch of socialising and civil rights movementing and I just couldn't find any game time.
If only XCOM was like Frozen Synapse with the MP... Oh well, sorry for being so unreliable.
weekendwarrio.rs - We've got more games than time...
Dear humans, the results of the first stage coming up within next couple of hours followed by pairings for the second stage.
And the votes are in!
League A:
- Noirdeathe 1 win
- Fire Water Gasoline - 3 wins
- Kataras424 2 wins
- TailSwallower
League B
- Sotto Voce - 3 wins
- Steef_ - 1 win
- Cabal_ - 2 wins
- Lacessit1
Thus, in the semi-finals we have Fire Water Gasoline vs Cabal_ on Police Station and Kataras424 vs Sotto Voce on Trainyard.
Same rules apply - you need best out of three i.e. two wins gets you into the final. The losers will fight for the third place. You can change the squads between the games.
The maps were selected by the roll of digital dice, like before.
I talked with TailSwallower and he waived his matches due to lack of time and presence of distance. With his blessing, everyone got a win against him in the League A.
Deadline is next Monday (03/12) and will be extended if necessary. Though there are now a lot less matches to be played.
Best of luck and keep reporting back here with your results and stories of glory and/or horror.
That's unfortunate. He was won the first match against me, and was winning the second one as well when our game crashed. He didn't have time to replay it but I m pretty sure he would have secured the win, the way the match was going...
On this note, what is the consensus for when a match crashes mid-session? Do we replay only with the remaining team members or do we do a full replay?
I say we replay from the very beginning and personally wouldn't hold it against the opponent if they changed their squad. But we can leave the latter to be decided between the combatants. I'm sure we're all gentlemen enough to come to a mutually agreeable solution when the need arises.
Hey, Cabal, what's your avatar like on Steam? Can't really find you. Can you add me? Cabal_ doesn't come up with any results. Cabal comes up with too many.
Yes, this morning.
Match Sotto Voce vs Kataras424 (Trainyard) - 2:0
Round 1 - Sotto Voce wins (played on dec 2nd)
Sotto Voce squad (10000 pts):
4x Smokejumper Support (4x LPR, 3x Scope)
1x Medic Support (1x LPR, 1x Medikit)
1x Sectiod Commander
Kataras424 squad (9975 pts):
1x Hunter Sniper (1x Laser Sniper Rifle, 1x Skeleton Suit, 1x Plasma Pistol, 1x Nano-Fiber Vest?)
2x Recon Assault (1x Alloy Cannon, 1x Skeleton Suit, ???)
1x Smokejumper Support (1x LPR, 1x Skeleton Suit, ???)
I didn't keep my smokejumpers close to each other and, as a result, had trouble focusing fire. The turning point was a successful mind control attempt at 75% on the sniper, and that Kataras failed to kill my sectoid commander on his next turn (LPR max damage is 9). I lost two smokejumpers and a medic.
Round 2 - Sotto Voce wins (played on dec 2nd)
Squads - same as above
This time I went along the far edge of the map with everyone. Unfortunately for Kataras, his sniper ran right into my group. I think he should've fallen back at this point, but he chose to stand and fight. I lost one smokejumper.
Finished my match against Fire Water Gasoline!
Cabal_ VS Fire Water Gasoline:
Round 1: Cabal_ wins. A massacre for both sides, Fire Water Gasoline had 6 casualties, I had 4, with the units still standing by the end of the round barely doing so. Very tense game towards the end.
Round 2: Cabal_ wins. Again, lots of dead units. Fire Water Gasoline unleashed a Muton Berserker on my team, killing half of my troops, until a brave sectoid finally put him down, proving he is worth the 400 points.
I'll be posting the videos tomorrow, if anyone is interested.
Eh the worst thing is that for a couple of seconds I actually thought I might have a chance to win one of the two matches. That was until the sniper was mind controlled... Was a good couple of games though, I really enjoyed them.
