UFO: Alien Invasion needs your vote

UFO: Alien Invasion is an open-source strategy game for Linux, PC and Mac that is inspired by X-com (with a hyphen). Sourceforge has put us up against other open-source projects to be named December's Project of the Month. We're about 20 votes behind some stock market software and the poll closes in just over a day.

If you have played us in the past or just want to support open-source gaming, please go and vote.

You'll need a Twitter account (yeah, I know), but it could come down to just a few votes.

We're pretty far along on the next release. We've already added some key mechanics (wounds, a weight/encumbrance system, larger squad support), new content (maps, aliens, weapons, UFOs), and are nearing the end of a comprehensive rebalancing of our campaign data to ensure our existing mechanics are working as they should be.

We provide nightly builds of the in-development version for Windows users (hit-and-miss stability) and of course our source is always available for those who can compile themselves.

Follow us on Twitter, Facebook or IndieDB.

IndieDB has now opened the first round of voting for Indie Game of the Year. No doubt, RPS readers will have a lot of games they'll want to support. I hope you'll consider voting for UFO: Alien Invasion. We're open-source, cross-platform and going through one of our most significant development phases.

To vote for us, look for the banner under the summary on our IndieDB profile. Or if you haven't played UFO:AI before, get a hold of one of our nightly builds and let us know what you think.

We made it into the Top 100 and now we'll face the other 99 in a final round of voting. Thanks to those who voted for us. If you did so before, please go and vote again.

Even if we don't win, a high ranking will bring us a lot of publicity -- and we don't get much of that since we're a volunteer-developed open-source game.

Check out our November development summary and learn more at ufoai.org.
