Public Service Announcement: it is completely impossible for you to notice global warming happening. No hurricane, drought, snowfall, or lack thereof can ever be sensibly attributed to global warming. Stop being so fucking stupid. Weather (local) is completely chaotic and random, even over the course of years and decades. Global warming is a very slow and imperceptible process that we only know exists from - hey, wouldn't you guess it - analysis of GLOBAL temperatures.

We notice trends. And the trends are pretty fucking strong.

So stop bullshitting about the "impossibility" of the evidence right in front of your face.

And you chose to illustrate this by embodying the remark?

Protip: Replace Global Warming with Climate Change, and you'll come across as more credible (Not addressed to anyone in particular)

Protip addendum: Call it Antropoghenic, or Man-Made, climate change, since that is what scientists are calling it. "Normal" climate change occurs all the time. This one ain't normal.

What he is saying is that regional weather variations when observed at a certain date can not be used to prove or disprove global warming. You can not point at one event and say that something is wrong - you need multiple events, because weather is an inherently chaotic system (in which the law of great numbers applies).
Indeed, trends. You are both saying roughly the same thing, and are both right.

The science is still being developed on it. My point earlier in the thread was with the sheer age of the world we have an absolutely minuscule amount of data. Suppose we take my 25 years as data, that means we've on record 0.00000005% of data to plot out what's really going on. Now obviously it's not as black and white as that and science can tell us more, but how close are we to even having 1% correct information on what's going on now compared to say 10,000 years ago or 100,000 years etc.
Actually, we do. I am quite sure that Ice core drilling allows us to look 800,000 years back into the future (we are even able to distinguish individual years in the earlier parts, and can plot the relative trends back extremely reliably. That data may not be 100% accurate, but you don't need 100% accurate data - you just need to see the trends. We have accurate information with a standard deviation of less then 1 degree and then decreasing as we come closer to today.

That's pretty damn accurate. Scientists would not be making the claims if it wasn't that accurate.

Climate change has a fuzzy vagueness to it for a reason. In the early 90s states with oil interests - including Saudi Arabia and the US - successfully lobbied the UN for the elimination of the term 'global warming' in agreements, replacing it with the less catastrophic and definitely not our fault 'climate change'.

What scares me about Global Warming (well, other than the fact that it means we're basically fucking over future generations) is that there is still a widespread belief that it's all made up by sensationalist scientists or at the very least that there's no conclusive evidence for it. Despite hundreds of studies showing it actually happens.

It's either proof of the power of lobbying or of the apathy and short-sightedness of humanity, neither of which is particularly appealing.

But be fair, every coastal city in tropical or temperate zone has equal share of opportunities to be hit by typhoon. Only regions within 5 degree North and South are free from the threat of this climatic phenomenon. While living a simple life style voluntarily is good for individuals, being forced upon is another matter.
No one cares about your odd fixation with the video and your idea that environmentalists are going to force you to change your ways anymore. Well... except me, otherwise I wouldn't be typing this... anyway, everyone else: feel free to ignore this exchange.
