Games of the Year so far (otherwise known as xmas pressie list ideas)

Ok, so it' getting near the end of the year, and (due to international shipping times) I'm getting asked what I want for xmas early. And I played bugger all games this year, so I immediately though of... well.. not much because my mind went blank.

I'm sure I've read about loads of really interesting, innovative, unique and fun games on RPS over the last year... but what were they again? I can only remember Dishonoured.

So, what are your early nominations for game of the year? (or my xmas list)? (innovative, cheap and indie also welcome, not just AAA stuff).

Up to this point my game of the year is either XCOM or Frog Fractions.

Not sure how much help this will be, since most of these aren't from this year, but my personal to-buy list for this christmas goes as follows:
    The Witcher 2
    Batman: Arkham asylum
    Batman: Arkham City
    Crusader Kings 2
    Hotline Miami.

Crusader Kings 2, XCom and Botanicula are the first ones that come to my mind. I'm sure I'm missing something, though.

    edit: FTL, of course.

Dishonored and FTL. Yes, I enjoyed the crap out of Dishonored. Bring on the hate.

XCOM, Dishonored, Sleepy Dawgz, Dark Souls PTDE ...all good games

    Also TWD deserves some recognition.

Spacechem was released this year, right? In January? That's one.
    FTL is another.
I don't know when Gimbal came out, but I've heard about it this year and it's definitely another.

Haven't played a lot of games this year and not loads have stuck out (still need to get X-Com and Dishonored), but I will have to go with Guild Wars 2.

Not that I got the most enjoyment out of it or been playing it for that long, I'm only level 28, but for making a genre I wouldn't have touched with a 10 foot pole an appealing prospect. After watching WoW and Warhammer Online played round a friends house, I couldn't fathom why anyone would pay a monthly subscription to do that rubbish. PvP looked alright but nowhere near as good as LoL or DoTA.

No subscription fee for GW2 was such a significant change for the genre, there is no tedious grind and I don't feel like I should be playing it all the time. When I have a hour or so spare, I load it up, will enjoy myself and when I start getting bored can leave it for a while. Massive improvement to a stale genre and a generally fun game

Nope. I was one of the featured games last year, though, so it's all good.

Crusader Kings 2, FTL, Torchlight 2 of the games I played.

Also Borderlands 2, Dishonoured, XCOM off the top of my head.

Sleeping Dogs. Square-Enix should be proud.

Lets learn WHAT MAKES A GOOD MAN, GOOD MAN!!

But for Christmas present? I would vote for Battlefield 3 Premium. Sleeping Dogs is singleplayer game, it can wait for price drop. Battlefield 3 is online game, on the other hand.

And I want one Christmas present: a stable Internet connection good enough for me to play online at home, with my own statistics!!

I was certain it would be XCom for me. But then this little game called Natural Selection 2 came my way and it wins GOTY from me. Would have been GOTY in any of the previous five or so years, as well.

Mark of the Ninja is my GOTY so far. Dishonored was really good too.

I was just listening to that song in my car. The Heavy's latest album makes for good driving music I've found. :D

Bit of a lean year on the AAA front. Consider Dark Souls, X-Com, Dishonoured, & Hitman: Abs depending on how it does. The two must buy games are Hotline Miami and TellTale's The Walking Dead. Also released recently was the special edition Frozen Synapse Box, and on the 16th of November Saint's Row the Third: The Full Package comes out. You'll definitely want to pick that up if you haven't already - It's the full game plus all the DLC. Great game. Just don't tell Nal I said so.

I haven't bought many games this year, so I'm a bit outdated. I can recommend Crusader Kings II, though, as so many already have. Excellent game.

Dark Souls, but I play that for a year already on consoleboxes, so it feels a bit funny to call it my GOTY again. Hence the title (so far) goes to XCom Enemy Unknown. Well done Firaxis, I didn't think a new strategy and/or tactics game could grip me even more than Frozen Synapse did. SpecOps: the Line follows in some distance, which came out of nowhere for me. Dishonored I find a bit bland in regards to characters, good game but not GOTY.
    currently playing: Assetto Corsa

Dark Souls and XCOM were probably my goatees. Dishonored gets an honourable (ha ha) mention, but it's short and disappointingly badly written.

If Hitman Absolution turns out to be anything like as good as Blood Money it'll likely end up being a strong contender too.

Dishonored and Borderlands 2. The extra attention given to our platform wins them bonus points on top of being the best two games of the year.
