PBEM* became a funny thing old games did, a relic of terrible Internet connections and floppy disks. Recently I discovered Frozen Synapse, and while it's actual game play grew dull to me it's support for asynchronous play was a glorious marvel.
Later I began spending time with Solium Infernum, it's high impact turns meant getting some grand strategy in the morning for 5 minute's with your cereal was a very real possibility. Drop box was key to this, it's a cloud file host but it merges with windows so well you hardly need to think about it.
It dawned on me that there are rather a few turn played multilayer games I have abandoned because they are too drawn out for a single session or unsuitable for play with randoms.
Civilization 4: Colonisation anyone?
