We have a pretty healthy BB community here, and we enjoy sharing our match reports and replays and the like. Despite its shortcomings, Cyanide's game gives us a great capacity to relive our favourite moments.
So I thought, why not preserve and celebrate the most entertaining moments?
What?
This is how I envision it working...
Throughout next year any player could submit for nomination a moment in one of their matches for being particularly memorable/awesome/Nuffley. Alongside this they'd put the replay up on BBManager or just mail it to me.
Then when December 2013 rolls by, I'd put together a little celebration of sorts in the form of a forum thread containing context, replay videos, odds for the play's success etc. Then we have a vote and choose our favourite play of the whole year.
That's the basic idea, but the specifics are still very much subject to change:
For example, depending on preferences and number of entries, more substantial/frequent voting may be required. Maybe a limit of one submission per user per month. Or a more limited submission period. There are a lot of options.
We could even have more categories, most decided by vote but some could be purely statistics:
- Cruellest Nuffling?
- Player of the year (as in in-game character)? We could divide this up into separate stat-based awards, say most violent player, best scorer, best (surviving) punching bag...
- Player of the year (as in actual person - in terms of sportsmanship, sociability, etc)?
- Match report of the year?
Why?
It's just a bit of fun and games, and also a way we can look back on what's come before and enjoy it again. It could also build a bit of esteem for our leagues and maybe a little celebrity for the in-game veterans who have somehow not yet died horribly.
When?
I imagine each 'award year' running from Dec 1st to Dec 1st, with the award and voting taking place in the first month of the following season (and awards for Christmas!). This works particularly well for me because I tend to have sod all to do around Christmas. :P
Who?
Oh and any of our RPS league matches should be able to take part, including the Challenge league and FUMBBL even. Ideally there should be no distinction between them, matches in any league should qualify for any category.
Okay then.
Right now though, I'm just gauging interest.
So... is this a crazy, bad idea or a crazy good idea?
(Also if you think this is neat and have any thoughts on how the voting categories should be split, I would definitely like to hear your input!)
