Any Starpoint Gemini 2 players here?

I saw that the early access is on sale. I normally wouldn't consider paying to be a beta tester but I loved the X series (X2 specifically) and there's been a void gnawing at my soul ever since. I did a forum search and not much came up.

The reviews on STEAM seem positive, but I was hoping that maybe someone here had some experience with the game.

I'm also very interested in the game. I've heard it described as Eve Offline and that is really appealing for someone like me who loves the idea of Eve but is really intimidated by being a newb in a sea of veterans in such a cut throat game.

I will most likely pick this up as it the price seems just right and the game sure looks like it has a ton of potential.

Just wandered over to the RPS forums to ask the same question.

Note that in the steam forum the devs are confirming 26th September release.

2014 was going to be the year of the space sim but I think we're still waiting for most of them, with nowt but pestilent piles of X-Rebirth copies to keep us going through 2014.

I got it a few weeks ago. It's quite interesting, though I've only spent about 4 hours with it. So far, the only thing i found a bit mediocre is combat. The rest seems interesting enough, in a sort of '90s era space games. There are some tech issues like stuttering every time you cross some world boundary, and of course there is no sp campaign yet, but on the whole i would liken it to a more accessible X3 game.

Interested & subscribing & so on. SP campaign: does anyone know what it's going to be like? Some sort of Wing Commander thing, with set-piece battles, or Freelancer, or some kind of even more sandboxy thing?

No clue about the SP campaign, but just playing the freeplay is a lot of fun. it does invoke freelancer kind of feelings, but on a bigger scale. Having a fleet is encouraged and all that. You dont quite get into the cockpit of your ship, as you dont really have direct weapons (and you dont pilot a fighter), but from the little bit that Ive played so far, it looks like a good capital ship combat sim, with trading, mining, and RPG elements. <--- these are special skills that depend on what class you took, those skills you can level up with different traits, so youre limited to having those four, but they do more or less of one or the other trait.

for example, the Tactics skill lets you choose from 5 different traits, such as fleet soak, fighter soak, fighter damage, etc. and if you level them up individually (you only get 1 point per level to spend) that skill does different things.

savvy? also, the turrets can be set to automatic if you have an officer, and so far, flying is satisfying. You start out with a basic cloaking device from the start, which higher level other ships can see through depending on what sensors they have.

So far, it all seems very well fleshed out, and I think they have got the handling down pretty good. Maybe some tweaking with the context menu, but aside from that all seems good.

Interesting. I'm most curious about the game. I've been wanting a Battlestar Galactica simulator for a while. Will this work?

It might, I will refer you to the latest trailer. I haven't got to the carrier size ships yet. You have controls for launching fighters and like.

Glad to read the positive impressions. The sale runs for another 20 hours; I'm going to pick this up.

I'm an early access virgin no more.

well this is an almost finished game. I mean, I guess some polish is still necessary, but not much.

It definitely needs some tweaking and plenty of the graphics options don't work still, but it seems to be getting there.
I'm waiting for the single-player story before I give it any real attention.

The thing is that its coming out soon, so its a great deal to take it now on sale.

Its not just capital ships, you will really start with a guner/corvete class and can build yourself up to a dreadnought or carrier class ships. The devs have stated they will put mercenarys in the game, so u can have like 1-2 ships in your escort for much better battle tactics.

Go on the community page on steam forum, ull see how they like it ;)

But all togather its a realy great game for a small indie team (as i know: 6-7 guys).

its just that the universe feels very 2D-y and there isnt that much need for long engagements; if you pass by someone they wont bother following you, as if the engine boost that you can activate is only for players and not for AI. Thats something that needs to be rectified, I think. Imagine, having space chases. being chased by a huge fleet or something, and it all comes down to you using the surroundings to your advantage. (hiding behind asteroids, having to keep your shield up to max so you cant escape, etc)

Since its fully moddable, I guess that will come anyway?

sounds fantastic, though if it isnt in this version yet, it wont be bugfree when they do release. (or whats the use of early access if not)

still, being chased by NPCs sounds like fun. I do hope they add this.
