A purple giraffe to our regular platoon leads! Having made a ham-fishted attempt of it this evening I have a new level of appreciation for you guys. I think I'll stick with the shooting lasers part for now though

so ... can we kick people that are immature and annoy everyone, mostly for being too young? we should determine how that's getting handled.
23-03-2013, 09:33 AM #744
But yeah, we need to decide how to handle this. I've been keeping an eye on a couple of our members these last few days, trying to promote good behaviour. My plan has been to send a /tell if I find someone being obnoxious, asking them to calm down or behave like grown-ups or whatever the specific problem might be, and being ready to kick them if they didn't comply.
i will continue doing this in the days to come, but I suggest the rest of you balloon leaders (who have the authority to kick from the outfit) also keep an eye open for unwanted behaviours, especially when I'm not online.
In essence, I think we should handle it like this:
- Have someone be responsible for contacting people.
- Give players behaving badly or being bothersome at least one chance, stating clearly what behaviour we find troublesome, preferrably by /tell so as not to shame them publicly.
- If this does not help, announce to the outfit, on Mumble or in /os, that so-and-so is being kicked from the outfit because of this-and-that.
- Finally, give people a few minutes to respond to that before kicking.
Does this sound reasonable?

I nominate Wibbster and Esoteric for being our HR managers

but if there is ppl who are bothering others it is good to have some good ppl that know how to talk to others. i would just become frustrated and say lousy stuff.
i know who we are talking about and i had to take of my headphones and scram a bit because i couldn't stand the voice and nonsense anymore.
(i know i talk a lot of shit and say lots stuff that is not a part of the game, but i listen to orders and try my best to follow. he doesn't)She's got lots of layers, like an onion made of boobs.

Yes, the procedure for invite must always be followed.

If we are going to introduce something like this, I feel it needs to be formalised and consistent to make sure we are fair, and to ensure that a change in the way we do things does not come as a surprise to anyone. I like EsotericReverie's suggested approach above, and will use that as the basis of a written guide that is a little more formal.
Once I've done this I would appreciate it if a couple of the more experienced players would take a glance over it before I post it here. I would also suggest that the final approval of any change in the way we do things is agreed at our next meeting.

we've had this discussion before. I have no problem with people being in the outfit, as a calf, and only be "upgraded" to giraffe if they found their way into mumble and shit.
But whatever. Its not like I have time to run around inviting people anyway
23-03-2013, 02:27 PM #750
We did set the procedure in stone during our meeting, and it is how it is to be done now. We all agreed that it has served us well and works well and the only time we had an issue was a random invite.
That is why we don't do random invites. If the outfit is supposedly for the RPS community/webpage/official outfit or whatever, then they need to have some sort of association to RPS as well.
edit: It is also to make sure people are on mumble. I see no point in just throwing in randoms and playing with them but them not being in "for real" until they have actually gone through the procedure. If we just have a bunch of members that are randomly invited but not actually in the community and communicating, what is the point with random invites? It will only cause frustration.

Double post here, nice...

I think what needs to be discussed then in a meeting is what our level of acceptability is. I, for one, don't give a toss if someone swears from here until tomorrow, but I know others might. That's just one example. We need to come a set agreement on where the line for what behaviour is drawn. Something to bring up later on.

OK, we have a bit of a problem...
Last night, I think during that brilliant assault to Camp Connery, we noticed a stream of invites. Which was odd... Someone suggested we ask them who invited them, but that got lost amidst the chaos of the battle.
Anyways... I logged in today, just to check the Daily Sale and perhaps goof around a bit, and LaKroy sends me a tell asking me, and I quote, "Is SecretPrototype back in the outfit?" I press the O key fearful like a blonde extra in a horror film, and lo and behold, SecretPrototype as an online member of the outfit. I sent him several tells, saying hi and asking him how and by whom he got invited, but he didn't respond.
I'm not a Balloon Leader, so I do not possess the mighty and legendary power of The Kick. But that is besides the point. How did he get in? And what about that stream of invites? These raise some concerns regarding our lax invite policy.
And now excuse me, but I'm going to stand behind some hard cover...

For fucks sake. Who invited him and who the fuck is doing this? Follow the protocol or just leave the outfit, thank you.
The stream of invites was on a LAN party and Esoteric sorted it. It was basically a bunch of dudes who knew someone in the outfit. In my opinion we should limit invited to BLs. It is obvious this is now not working any more, and limiting in to a good 10 people at least slims down the chances for random invites that do not follow the protocol, and that we can easily know who did it.
And it is not about shutting down the outfit or not being an outfit for RPS, but please please please note that it is no fun at all to get random dudes in that are then shown to be dicks that got in because you did not follow the protocol, that then one of us BLs need to deal with and catch the flak for.
To repeat this, and this is a rule of the outfit that we democratically agreed upon on our meeting mind you:
1. Tell person to visit rockpapershotgun.com
2. Tell them to find their way to the PS2 section of the forum
3. Tell them to find out how to join.
This is how we keep idiots from getting in.

Aah yes, he told me by whom he was invited, but I forgot after lunch.. Dont worry though, precautious measurements have been taken against the digestive area's and it will not happend again.
I actually came here to stress that proper recruiment procedures should be followed, but as I see it has already happend. Maybe we should only allow the PL's and SL's to be invite people in?
Do note that Secret prototype promised he would go on Mumble, at this point I didnt remember his name though. So I didnt bother with it.
The question is, should he be allowed in, given his previous behaviour?
EDIT: I agree with Ridebird.

Yes, let's keep invites to BLs to avoid this situation. I will demote everyone to calf if needed seeing as Cooper is away for another week and we can't change invite privilegies. That way it is also fair - I am not happy to deal with this shit again because someone invited him, and then it is my or another BLs responsibility to deal with the situation. We don't have formal leadership with any real authority, which is also why it is unfair that we must deal with this because someone thought this was funny.
Whoever did it, can you just come forward and explain why and please note the protocol for future measures?

I support your idea Ridebird, although Giraffe Beacons can also keep their powers. They should know. I am willing to help you with demoting everyone(we have 700+ members.. maybe weed out the inactive someday?).
24-03-2013, 03:18 PM #759
The problem with the inactives is that we can't see how long people have been inactive for except for one week behind.. Cooper is one of these for example. We could sort out the BR <10s perhaps, but I'd rather not kick people that then come back. Bit rude.
Beacons inviting should be fine since all of them are on mumble and would probably not be afraid to say that they made a mistake.
If only this game had logs.

Hmmm, the user management is indeed horrendous, how do bigger outfits handle it?
