    Planetside 2 useful info links.

I know this might be either stupid or good, but my opinion, we should make something like a library of links to useful information.

I can volunteer in making that list, but probably couldn't make it all by myself. So if you, young lads of RPS, come over something interesting on the internet, please, don't be afraid of posting it here, I'll try to compile data as fast as possible.

Also to add: yes there is a way to get 170SC for free, and no, if you play from the EU, you can forget about it.

Thanks for input, I'm lazy, so didn't try to change your description a bit. If you're uncomfortable with it, sorry, but I hate waste time out of PS2

Thanks for that, but doesn't work with me. Probably, since it's old info and I've been playing 4 days.

Since my HDD broke on me and now I have 3 weeks to wait for repairs, I might not be online enough to check stuff.

Genius! This is great. This thread would really help a lot not only to newbies 'coz it covers everything. Though these bunch of links are bit overwhelming.

Regarding the performance guide, if you have a good CPU and a good GPU you will most likely be CPU bound and the game will show it as such. It doesn't matter if the game (as in my case) uses like 30-50% of your CPU and you have unparked cores. It's just very unoptimized and there's nothing to do but wait till january when larger optimizations seem to be coming out.

I'll have to admit to being clueless when it comes to computer specs.

    I have 6b of RAM, a Geforce 670 GTX and an i7 920 2,6 ghz.

I get roughly 20 fps when things hit the fan so to speak. Is it because my i7 is 2,6 ghz? I read somewhere that the recommended is 4 ghz (these numbers mean very little to me). Or is it here also the core parking and I should just wait patiently till they fix it?

    That sounds very low.

I have a 670 and a 2500k @ 4.4 ghz. Lowest it dips is 35, mostly is around 40-50. Try unparking (google a guide, it's pretty easy), and I'd suggest overclocking if you feel confident enough in what you're doing.

I would also suggest you update your drivers, but generally yes the game is just very unoptimized, as your CPU should run it fine.

I'll look into overclocking and unparking. I've also ordered an SSD. Would that improve the performance any? Again, I'm pretty clueless to the inner workings of computers. The reason I'm buying the SSD is more that the taxes on them go up after new year's.

SSD won't really help. You might get a slight increase in loading, but since PS2 is an online game the biggest killer with it can be a bad network connection.

SSD won't really help unless you've had some stuttering when flying etc. It loads a lot faster though.

Okay, cool beans! I'll seem what I can tweak and if all that fails I'll put my hopes on January.

    @Hanban,

Your CPU should be okay for PS2, recommended specs are an i5 or greater.
While your CPU is not super-fast, you don't need 4GHz and you have a lot of cores.
You might look at doubling your RAM though (if possible) as recommended is 8GB.
This assumes you have a 64-bit OS, of course (but it would seem likely).
I was struggling with my old PC which only had 4GB (Core 2 Duo) and was told PS2 used a lot of memory (as well as being CPU intensive).
You should get a better performance boost from 12GB of RAM than from an SSD though.

I've recently got a shiny new PC so PS2 runs great but I also upgraded the RAM in my old machine from 4GB to 8GB.
If you'd like, I'll test out the old PC and see how this improves things.

6 GB should be no problem at all. RAM issues would also show themselves as stutters, lockups and Windows warning to close down the program, not low FPS primarily.

Your FPS boost came from going from duo to quad, which is a massive leap in performance in modern games, even if PS2 isn't that awesome at using multi cores efficiently either. It's just generally unoptimized right now.

The things I know work is setting RenderFlora to 0 in the user options (either in my documents or the game's folder in steam) as well as RenderDistance to about 1000-3000. If you have a fairly high end PC (like Hanban), you can set anything else to whatever you want and you'll have exactly the same performance. Overclocking should help however, not entirely sure though.

This is a very powerful PC you have there. on my i5 and gtx 650 I have 40 non stop and usually 50 or more.
First of all when playing hit Alt+F to see FPS and mind the little box beside - if it says CPU it means the processor is the problem when it says it says GPU it means the graphics card is a bottleneck.

Generally if CPU is a bottleneck then you can safely increase quality settings in game without harming frame rates. If GPU is a problem then turning down quality would do you good if medium is still unplayable then I would consider turning down resolution and sticking with medium due to infiltrators' invisibility on low settings.

Outside of game settings I would recommend checking what applications you have running in the background, maybe your problems are internet related and not graphic related. You should not have any P2P of course, but also check other apps like browsers, skype and whatnot that might eat your resources - some anti virus programmes are quire heavy on system resources - maybe try a lighter free version? And check for any malware/viruses that sometimes do affect performance.

Install newest graphic drivers and check HD space - maybe you are running low on it and Windows likes to have a lot of free free space to use it as cache.

Overall with such a PC I would hold off with any hardware purchases, these specs are more than average.

There is a useful guide on graphics issue here: http://www.planetside-universe.com/s...845#post861845
