Turn 16 fouling and bully-fouling an already defeated opponent are a debate in themselves (I was on the end of it many times as a high elf player and think it's fine, but that's just me), but otherwise fouling is absolutely the only way that a hybrid team can live with high TV bash or elves.

Thus whether "encouraging" fouling is wrong kind of misses the point.

That said, I see GC's point about T16 and bully-fouling, even if I don't agree with it, and I do also absolutely agree that we want the tie breaker to be easy to administer. Anything to reduce the admin workload is a good thing. I just don't like it much!

I think as things can get quite nebulous as to what "causes" an injury (I remember arguing in favour of a failed dodge from the Tackle skill in the past), I do like using the rulebook's method of doing it:

Any casualty that nets the attacker 2 SPP is one that has been earned, typically through three different dice rolls (block, armour, injury) and always through the capricious block dice themselves. I'm happy for those to be counted and for only those counted, not just for simplicity's sake but for fairness. We miss out on fouls (yay!) and secret weapons (boo!) but you have to draw a line somewhere and that's as good as any.

(As I write this I realise that Cyanide awards SPPs for Stabs when they shouldn't, but I don't know if stab victims are actually recorded as casualties. If they do, something to bear in mind when dark elves are caught in a tiebreaker situation...)

I'd lobby for injuries caused by banzai goblin throws myself... but then I would.

and so Div2 is decided without having to go to tiebreaker and see just how many CAS were, in fact, caused by stabs.

How Original faced off against GroovyChainsaw's Norse and carried Horkon Heartripper, a merc lineman, and a wizard with them.

Elves choose to recieve and the norsemen kick it short...and then get a blitz and stand under the ball, while 2 elves are KO'd off right away....yay. We rallied alright and pinned the ballcarrier to the sideline, fouling and blocking off KOd both his berserkers (and going down another elf in the process). That forced him to backtrack and try to cross the pitch...I gambled and set up columns, but in cantact, and it paid off when he used up his rerolls on 1d blocks on the sidelines and got stuck with a double bothdown when he needed to push my columns (though he does MNG one of my tackle blitzers). I used that opportunity to spring the ball and with no time or chance to score, held it on the sidelines to go into halftime 0-0. Really sunny weather screwed 2 different ball recovery pass attempts singlehandedly.

Both berzerkers wake up and 1 elf doesn't, so its 10 elves vs. 11 norse. Nuffle shows me what he thinks of my request for a blitz to even things up by whipping a rock at a lino to (luckily) stun him. The kick is short and he fields it well to give him a strong position. Playing aggressive defense has suited me well so far and i need at LEAST a draw, so i have to force a turnover or a fast score, or push him back....so i push hard against his screened ballcarrier (he's been careful not to cage against the wizard) and get a CAS of my own to even it up 10 v 10. He clears all 3 marks on his ballcarrier, but doesn't manage to gain ground. The elves back off and form a line while horkon leaps over the top and tries a (failed) stab on the back of the ballcarrier. With me pressuring him from behind to paralyze his offense, GC elects to try to make a loose screen and swap sides of the field.

    FIREBALL!!!!!

hugely successful-ish. 3-target fireball KOs the ballcarrier and someone else, but the ball scatters the worst way and lands in 2 TZs. I go for broke anyways and my 5AG blitzer makes a 2+, 3+, 3+, 2+ to pick up the ball and escape to 1 TZ, but fails the final dodge away from all markers and the ball lands, poorly guarded, and i forgot to stand up a bunch of players, hoping it would succeed....oh well, shit happens.

...and it apparently happens to Groovy, as his sure hands ballcarrier flubs the pickup to turn over almost immediately! This time, i make the pickup and handoff to the (now no longer in disturbing presence) rookie lino, who runs to freedom and scores the next turn on T13, to give GC 3 turns to equalize. 1-0 elves.

After a nice feint towards one side of the field that pulls my tackler out of position, GC boldly tries to solo run the opposite flank with his Blodge/SS runner, and my wrestle 2d blitz fails, pushing him closer. Horkon makes another crazy play and dodges thru tacklezones to put a mark in the worst spot, and his berzerker fails the last GFI to knock horkon free on T16, game over 1-0 to the elves.

How Original is going to the championship....elves who win games! How Original! As a side not, we're be going into game 1 with 9 players and likely a 1400-ish Team value...helloooo inducements!

its OK PW....i'll get a wizard...turn 1 lightning bolt on your ballcarrier, then the induced DP runs over if he's not dead yet.

    I like fouling...

Dear old Mr Nuffle sat down on his Miami Vice themed lazyboy, stained with years of bloodweiser spills and elf-cutie-induced jubilations. The crackle of a gobbo nursery rhyme rap floats over from grandpa Gruffle's radio, handed down through generations of uffles.

Mr Nuffle clicks switches through ads for serrated spearheads and fizzy codpieces to settle on his fav: Cabalvision. Who's playing tonight then?

Global Warping vs Rok 'Ard Nobz

"Baaaaaah not the farkin Nobz again"

Mr Nuffle throws down the can of bloodweiser and heads to the kitchen with a grunt of exasperation. He takes a large metal pot, two giant cauliflowers, a box of canned beans, pickled snotling bellies and a generous helping of diced stinkfungi, and goes about mashing them with a pretty elf shoulder. Once ground he gobbles the contents and washes it down with Grandpa Gruffle's special ale. Minions battle in his belly as he runs into the Room of Bloodbowly Visions.

He hurriedly uncovers the semispherical Bloodbowl Divination Orb, waves his gnarly hands over it's smooth surface until the Warping vs Nobz game appears.

The teams are lined up to start. Nobz setting up their classic "come through the middle so we can grind you please" defence, Global feeling sheepish against the depleted yet still mighty line of green fangs and spikes.

Nuflles spins around, unbottons the arse-flap of his long john's, bends over and braces his knees with his arms as...

...a gush of high-pressure Nuffley watery shit onto the orb.

The chunks of multicoloured Nuffleness seep into the orb and within minutes they're gone.

    "Aaaaaah, that should do it..."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, Nuffle's had enough of the good old Nobz. Another pile of utter shit landed on their heads against the 20's rats. First block, knocked out Black Orc. First foul, knocked out black orc. Two turns later, injured black orc. The response: Several turns of NO RAT DOWN. Nothing, not one furry bastard got knocked over. The rest of the match was a similar mess for the greens, ending in a 3-0 defeat for the Nobz.

Lacking punching power and skilled Nobz and not helped by a massive imbalance in luck in both last matches the Nobz let their tired grip on the Champs go. We're obstinate but do take a hint.

Public announcement: Nobz are on training camp for the next season or three, till they regain a solid Black Orc line. Get in their way and be pummelled.

Two crippled teams faced off for a championship decider this morning - Weasel had softened up the Nobz a bit which had dropped them to 11 players for the game while Winks lizards had MNG 3 rats meaning they were also down to 11 but with TV to spare. Rats added a rookie with money to spare to induce a couple more line fodder and a wizard.

The first rat drive went better than I could have hoped. A combination of Trikch and some well placed boots KO'ing two black orcs and injuring a third within three turns. All this while not a single rat had hit the deck. The gutters escorted Eli Ratting down the left flank leaving most of the Orc defence behind them. With Ingvi lurking though nothing was certain. A gutter wrestled Ingvi to the floor which allowed the rats to shift flanks to stall for a little longer but Eli Ratting (always been in Peyton Rattings shadow) fluffed a pass to the gutter on the far side. Ingvi was able to dodge away from a marker and GFI to take Eli out the game for his ineptitude but could only make one more GFI to mark the ball. It was enough to force the rats to stop stalling and take the lead in turn 6.

The orcs continued to struggle to take rats out of the game while the rats did their best to make it as tough as possible to get a tying score. The wizard elbowed his way to the front of the technical area but was ushered back by the coach who decided to keep it in hand for the second half. The key play of the drive saw Ingvi burst into the endzone in turn 8, turn to receive the ball from the agile orc thrower who saw a streak of fur in his peripheral vision as Jumbce Creep burst into his passing line to make an interception! (needed a 6)

Half time and the rats led 1-0 with a wizard still in hand and the threat of Slintch, the rat one-turner still on the field. The second orcish drive was similar to the first with receivers breaking downfield while the rats tried to slow the play down - Ingvi taking some special attention as the principal scoring threat. However the rats couldn't hold the Orcs away from the end zone for too long but managed to make the pass difficult as the thrower was again forced to throw over Slintch. Who intercepted! Unbelievable Jeff. Slintch did what gutters do and scooted off into the distance passing the ball to another gutter who moved swiftly out of range and scored the following turn.

Orcs inability to take rats out was still in evidence as the rats could still field 11 and when a blitzer failed a GFI to mark Jumbce Creep before the ball carrier who'd caught the kick had moved an opening presented itself. A wrestle gutter got to him with some friends but couldnt take him down so the wizard was sent forward to do the job. The orcs still recovered the loose ball, injuring the wrestle gutter in the process but the orc thrower tripped dodging Slintch and injured himself in the process!. Slintch was able to recover the loose ball but with no reroll in hand and dodge used up getting there he had to stand next to a black orc who completely failed to take him down on 3D. It was easy enough for Slintch to dodge clear next turn and run in the third.

The final Orc drive saw Grinn finally getting an SPP pass on a 15/16 blitzer but Ingvi couldnt stay out of reach of the rats and was taken down preventing a consolation score.

Not the glorious against all odds victory I wanted to win the Champs with but rather a nuffling for Grinn. When AV7 doesnt break and AV9 does its going to be an uphill battle. Still the end result is Global Warping are the Divisions of Death champions! Its been a long road for them - two years of going up against some of the legendary names of the DoD has taken its toll on the team as half the team have played less than ten games and our stalwart killer has definitely seen better days! This is the teams third tilt at the champs having been relegated on 4 points both previous times. This is the worst match ups i've had in the Champs and with the worst team i've brought to the champ but somehow managed to luck my way through it this time with 3 wins out of 3. A testament to persistence.

Love how it starts out poetic, builds the expectation that it's going to be a blood bowl fairy tale, and then... shits on it.

Congratulations to 20P on a convincing championship, 3 wins out of 3. In retrospect my complicated plan of "Grinn beats 20P, I beat Wink, I sneak the championship on cas/TD coefficient" would have been better replaced with "don't get stuffed by 20P in the first game". Ah, hindsight.

I was looking through the historical standings earlier to discover you used to run an elf team. What happened to the carefree ball flinging Weasel used to love?

A bit of that, and a bit of 'it turns out I am not very good at elves'.

JoeyJoJoe: you can find out when each "week" ends on the "fixtures and results" page of the spreadsheet; it's the 5th for this round.

Speaking of this round, I played the ridiculous stat freak skinks of Wink in the last game in the Champs; it looked worrying for me for a while as my repeated clawpombings failed to hurt the lizards and I failed to stop Wink running in a touchdown in turn 6, but I did scramble an equaliser at the end of the half (with a very fortunate series of dice rolls allowing me a blitz, a dodge then two go for its then a pickup and a long pass with my ag4 guy, a catch with a marked ag3 player, another dodge and a go for it, if I remember right). In the second half I continued with plan A (violence) until it suddenly started working; Wink's team melted away and I scored the winner in turn 16.

Looks like I'll be sticking around for another shot at the title next season, with returning champion 20Phoenix, Limdood's goth elves, and... Janek's nurgle team? The Beasts? Oh god, no.
