    How well supported is 1920 x 1200 ?

Like many of you, I game on a 1920 x 1080 display because they are ubiquitous and therefore cheap, plus at the time of purchase I wasn't much of a PC gamer. However I am thinking of making the upgrade to 1920 x 1200.

My question to you is, is x1200 supported very well in most games? I'm worried about more situations like Witcher 2 where (initially) x1080 was only supported so you had letterboxes. Would those owners of x1200 monitors say they encounter that situation occasionally or never?

I use a 1920x1200 monitor and I can't think of a game that hasn't supported it, as 16:10 is still a very common aspect ratio.

I trust that's merely one of a number of upgrades the display you're considering has over your current one...

I have a 1920x1200 display and have played Witcher 2 and ... nothing. Was the aspect ratio wrong? Were there black bars? Stuffed if I know. All I can say is that I've never had cause to give the issue any thought.

I have a 1920x1200 monitor here, and I haven't really had any issues. In general, if they support widescreen resolutions properly, 1920x1200 is supported. If they don't support widescreen properly, well, you're probably screwed on a 1920x1080 as well.

In the 3.5 years I have had a 24" monitor I can say the only game that had a problem with it was the Witcher 2. Even bad console ports normally support 16:10 as its more prevalent in the market today than 16:9 (which presumably will change in time as new monitors replace old ones).

Same here, I recently switched like you to 1920x1200 and didn't find any game that won't work. I played only most recent games though.

Works everywhere. If a game letterboxes it's 1080 to your 1200 screen, it means the game does support the resolution, just the content wasn't designed for it (but will be delivered equivalently to a 1080 screen, proper aspect ratio and all).

The only exception are really old games (patches exist for most though) and the odd fixed resolution thing (indie games mostly - i.e. Terraria started out supporting only 640x480).

Oh, I should probably stop people from replying to this thread because I got the monitor. It's a Hanns-G 28" behemoth, still a TN panel like my last one, but it's so freaking ginormous that I'm okay with that.

    Thanks for all the input.
