If we're on Hossin, then I'm afraid I'll have to be playing "Fortunate Son"...

    It's all about this.

This should totally be a Silly Monday, actually. Have a squad of Valkyrie 'Hueys', picking people up from Warpgate and dropping them in hot zones on Hossin.

And each one must provide a different 60s soundtrack over proxy chat!

I thought it was gonna have music from Miracle of Sound, and was a bit disappointed (although the crescendo crescendoness was super crescendo). And then the credits... I approve.

PTS patch notes (rough draft) - SOE have said this build is likely to go live with minimal changes.

Bulldog's getting a nerf, tank HE is getting reload time reduction but reduced blast radius, repair tool's now based on bounding box, max level flak armour prevents direct hit rocket kills... and a big thank you to everyone who's crap at aiming with the Walker as you've gotten it buffed.

    Also the expected PPA nerfs.

Edit: I also noticed they're removing the canopies from most spawn rooms - this may mean an 8-10GB patch, so anyone with slower internet may want to brace themselves.

PPA nerfs don't look too bad... apart from the reduction in size of the plasma disco balls! Not cool.

Directives should be a lot of fun. Didn't realise that you will earn certs from completing the tiers. One of my problems with certain achievement-ey systems in games is where you earn millions of achievement points that don't actually do anything. So getting some actual certs too is nice.

The spawn changes on the PTS are actually really great. Probably looking forward to them the most, it just felt so much better playing the game with them.

edit: Alert changes look much improved as well. Looks like continent locking is gonna be a thing again, rather than the carousel of sillyness that we have had post-Hossin. Still reckon spawn changes will be the highlight of the patch though.

They are effectively making HEAT round redundant with this. There's basically no reason to ever use them, unless you're new and can't afford either HE or AP. Also, in their infinite wisdom, they are effectively gonna increase the usernumbers of HE with this, while also buffing the reload time. I don't know whether the splash radius decrease will offset this, but i have my doubts.

Really don't understand why they don't put in armor dedicated to HE for infantry if it's a problem, letting you focus on tank killing in a way that is easy to do from spawn camps.

Most of the time I'll be pulling grenade bandolier or whatever anyway, so who cares?

I wouldn't say HEAT is being made redundant. It's still very much a jack of all trades master of none, it's still effective, it's a nice mix of AP and HE, it can be used effectively for both yet not as good in those specific roles. Before HE was pointless, you'd be better off with HEAT because as long as you could aim reasonably well you're gonna be able to easily kill infantry but you can still be effective against other tanks. Now by having to get a direct hit on infantry to kill them, it's like AP but much more forgiving, HEAT is still good, it just can't kill infantry as well as HE can. I'll probably cert into HE for my anti-infantry mag now and make a new loadout with HEAT for when I'm not sure what I will be facing.

That was a rather narrow view of that massive list of changes, I'd like to say. I for one am really looking forward to the outfit recruitment improvements and the change to the repair tool targetting, a finickiness that has been bothering me since I started playing, basically.

Yeah, props to SOE for tackling a decent swathe of changes as they can.

In a couple of years we might even get them to look at their UI.
... I want to make a joke about "all of it" but really it's a few issues that keep annoying me. Actually fuck that, I'm just going to exaggerate.

    You know, all of it.

Ah, I feel so much better.

Was thinking about adding the "most relevant to my interests" disclaimer or copy-pasting the whole notes but I'm lazy like that.

Edit: thought they were forcing motion blur on as I'm an idiot. They're forcing it off.

That right there is basically why I think that HEAT's basically redundant. You need the same amount of skill/effort to kill infantry as with AP, but you don't get the additional damage vs vehicles.

Generally, I think that HE + AV secondary will be a decent all-purpose setup, with HE + PAA and AP + AV secondary being the specialised loadouts. I guess we'll see how things turn out, but i'm sceptic that it's gonna go how SOE expects it to go (which means that we could face a round of nerfs, of e.g. AP)

The key unanswered question for the Valkyrie is whether Engineers can repair it from the rumbleseats. It will be slightly OP if it works.

Memories of riding in the back of helicopters in battlefield 2 prior to the airnerf patch. 3 repairers, 2 gunners and a pilot and all 6 men counted for flag capture without even getting out.
