This is how I understand what Sketch just described (not how I would have done it, I'd go for something a bit more dynamic):

    ps2 wgs.jpg

As said, I'd prefer to see something less rigid. more dynamic. Ages ago they mentioned auto-wg rotation per continent after a lock. Something along those lines, where locking places scrambles the warpgates (after all, they are warp-gates, they can link to anywhere right, as well as being weird alien tech (maybe?))

CMaster's diagram is almost identical to one I saw on reddit that seemed to get Reddit's consensus approval that "yes, this is how it would work". The other battle islands have been named as: Ascension, Extinction and Desolation and consensus seems to be that you'd get 250 people on them during normal play. Not sure how the intercontinental lattice works when one or more battle islands are being used fro 48vs48 competitive play.

Competitive play will be on specialist servers - won't effect regular play.
SoE don't seem to know yet whether they want people to use their existing characters for this, prebuilt ones, or if they want to implement a "MOBA Style" earn resources and shop setup.

Completely OT, but man ... i hope we don't get stuck with amerish as 'home continent'. i hate that place like no other.

If we were to set up a team, I'd like to do and see more SpecOps style squad play in the coming weeks. i.e. Smoke/squad composition tactics as practice. i really enjoy those squads and miss Ridebirds SpecOps smoke squads!

Right then, next time we're both on for an hour or more let's do it, Ridebird style! Smoke, NV, concs, the lot.

I think having competition somewhere in the game might focus our TacGir play.

Yeah, I'd like to see that. I think we could fairly easily find 48 people interested enough in TacGir play to get a halfway decent team.

I feel the competitive urge rising.... at some point I know I'd want to start enforcing rules in TacGir in order to maximise our competitive chances. That does not fit easily with the general outfit ethos I know. Maybe at some point we just give in and accept that sometimes it's ok to have serious giraffes?

Also, has anyone else thought about getting in touch with Ridebird and others (IceTrance, Mindburst, InvaderZim, Cortosis) who all seemed good and quite competitive but haven't been about much recently? Maybe if we could commit to a regular TacGir slot each week we could broaden our range of playstyles so there really is something for everone. At the moment I feel we do casual and semi-casual really well but falter slightly at the more serious end. All playstyles are equally valid so it would be nice if we could offer something for those who like to be serious (and those who sometimes want to be serious).

I'm not sure how relevant the smoke thing would be competitive wise - it has an edge when used against the unsuspecting masses, not prepared and coordinated groups. We just need to keep working on squad cohesion and response speed, especially when we split comms.
Also, you can expect it to take more than just infantry to win a battle.

I always got the impression IceTrance was just a farmer, rather than someone who played competetivley in an objective sense.

There's always a tactical benefit, no matter how organised the enemy. It forces them to equip NV/IR scopes if you stagger the smoke. It also means skilled marksmen have to take potshots.

Smoke is very effective against maxes, as they have no way to counter it. Also, if you combine smoke and concs should be highly effective.

Yes, on both points. I think it's okay to have serious giraffes as an option. I also think it would be really fun to try to get into the habit of doing this on a regular basis (weekly being a good suggestion) and reaching out to those old outfit members who got a bit burned out. Maybe we can commit to running one or two "hardcore" squads during StratThursdays, to borrow some terminology from the oppressors.

Well I reckon that most of the time you will always have access to at least 2 continents unless you are being seriously hammered by two factions at once. Still this is gonna be a big issue with the fourth faction, everyone will want to be on Indar so whatever faction has Indar as their homebase gets all the extra pop.

Bah. VS should own Indar on Miller. We've held and defended it for so long, and so many bloody battles were fought over it. It belongs to the Sovereignty, forever.

If the most popular faction had Indar as their home cont though, they'd never be fighting on it, as their numbers would let them be pushing elsewhere.

Indar is certainly problematic as a home cont though - it's bigger and more varied than the other two, so it's not comparable.

Can't really compare the continents when Indar has lattice and Esamir/Amerish are still due a revamp. Once we have Esamir all latticed up we'll see if it's evened out the balance of the continents.

Plus it sounds like they will rotate much more often than WG positions have so far.
