i'm just wary of air getting more effective AV means that rocketpods. We used to have that with pods basically instagibbing from behind, but that was thankfully fixed. Right now the tank vs ESF balance seems to be ok (you still die against good pilots), and it'd be a shame if that was shaken up too much.

Yeah, I'm not surprised that the Mass Drivers got dropped. An ultra-fast, ultra-accurate, render-range weapon that could be used to tap ESFs before switching to rotaries for a near-instant kill, or snipe a vehicle from far beyond the range of return fire, or just add DPS to noseguns by firing it during reloads. It outshone all the other secondary weapons in flexibility.

The semi-active "Guided Missile" is going to be very dependent on the maximum firing range. Too long and it becomes an easy way of sniping vehicles, too short and you'd be such a sitting duck that you become quick certs for any nearby Heavy with a dumbfire. I'm going to reserve judgement until it hits live.

I'm a bit disappointed the Locust Cannons aren't going to be secondary weapons any more. I wanted to use them with the PPA for a pretty much perfect air/ground killing balance, though it would probably be a little bit OP...

    Damn right.

I assume the lock-on will be something you're alerted to as an MBT driver. In which case just use IR Smoke and maybe even top-side armour will be needed.

I guess we're kind of lucky with the mag as we can probably magburn out of the crosshairs for the average ESF pilot.

I have a feeling those guided missles will be less usefull against MBT's and lightnings, but could be very usefull against sunderers (if the damage is higher then the pods) and harassers (if you can keep the lock on).

I always liked the MIG-29 lockon indicator:

A simplified version of this would be great, it shows threat type, direction, strength in a single glance! Relative Elevation of the Threat means where ever it is in the higher or lower hemisphere relative to the player(so coming from below or above), it makes it very easy to pick a a-beam course on any target or dash away quickly. to be fair, I have never seen the missile hitting me in a ESF yet. I hack the lack of a backwards view.

    EDIT:

They might be stretching it a bit far with 6+ million players though...

It's a nice video although I don't think it really shows the scale of the game. Interesting stats though!

They hit you with that to distract you from the even more ludicrous notion that Hossin will get finished in 2014.

I'll be there. Unless it turns into a massive zerg of each faction that's literally no fun.

110 Billion shots fired for 1.05 Billion Kills over 94 million hours by 6 million players

    110,000,000,000 shots
    1,050,000,000 kills
    94,000,000 hours
    6,000,000 Players

That's about a 100 bullets per kill, which seems high and that we (everyone on all servers) fired around 1170 shots an hour in total overall. That seems very very low.

(assuming american billions, also check my Maths)

Considering suppression, firing at air, 20% average accuracy, etc, 100 bullets per kill seems reasonable.

Also considering that a lot of players spend a lot of time waiting to deploy or looking at the map or staying inside a spawn room, that 1170 shots per hour number may unfortunately be not inaccurate.

You're right Grible. The numbers don't seem quite right put in context...

I think Eclectic is right about bullets to kill

Also, 1000 shots per hour per person is probably accurate too.

    Further information...

The total number of hours played per hour is 10723.
I guess it's possible there can be 10,000 people on every hour...?

But that's not 1170 shots each player in an hour, that's 1170 shots in total all three factions all 9 servers... one magazine an hour from each side?

No wait - false assumptions - it is 1170 each average player since I counted all player hours.

No - Hang on - back to my original thought, 94 million hours played in which 110 billion bullets were fired is 1170 bullets fired by all players everywhere per hour, not each.

    Ahhh Brain hurts

Ok - try again. so there is a unit "Player Hours" of which we have 94 million. Ignore.

If there are 6 million players (there arn't) then each played for around 15.4 hours of the 8000 hours of real time this year (assuming a few hiccups and down time and damn it I like round numbers) in their 15.4 hours they fired 110 billion / 6 million = 18,000 bullets which is about 1000 bullets an hour. So it would seem the average player fires about 1000 bullets an hour.
