So we had a decent night on Saturday after the guild mission. On Squirrel's suggestion, we took a sizable RPS group around a few of the different maps. In total, I think we hit all of them except our own.
We actually ended up having the most success in EB. The two German borderlands were pretty empty in terms of friendly players and we were easily wiped by the roaming zergs there. However, since we were clinging onto SM in EB, we ventured over there to find Phetid defending with his merry band of Cry Havoc players. Both of the enemy servers had made progress with getting our outer walls down, but this just meant that we could easily wipe them as they came into the castle's courtyard. Ultimately, it turned into a very profitable evening - despite me being half-asleep.
I also played along with Gwyn's event tonight. That also went fairly well and the community was able to field a good hundred players in total. The highlight was a rush on AM Garrison, which consisted of about five omega siege golems.
And remember gang, I'm holding an event this Saturday.
A hundred players for an event, really? That's pretty awesome.
Edit: I wonder whether the officers want to add us to this site? http://gh-guilds.p.ht/

Sadly I missed most of Gwynn's event, but it sounded like it went well.
I was freestyling around EB last night and we had an amazing fight at Stonemist. We were streaming in to help defend the lord's room and it flipped just as I was reaching the outer door. A few of us were milling about wondering what to do when a mesmer got a portal up to the top of the inner walls where we still had a ballista and we held that beachhead while more and more people were ported in. Enemies were hitting us from both sides and I was frantically chucking grenades to keep them back so we could spear them at range.
Once we got enough people up we managed to charge an entry tunnel and get another ballista up to cover us and push into the capture circle to find we were heavily outnumbered and it wasn't looking good until a load of green nametags charged the enemy from the rear as reinforcements somehow got into the inner from the other side. There was a massive scrap that didn't last long and the enemy got enough of a second wave to finish us off, but we came very close with only a few people and some good mesmering.
It's been a fun match so far and the scores are excitingly close.
Icepop, your tales of EB have inspired me. Indeed, our own success in EB at the weekend also encouraged me.
I decided to take a walk in EB tonight after work on my inconspicuous warrior character. About fifteen minutes ago we had hold of SM, but while we were off fighting in the northern part of the map, MS portalled in and nabbed the castle. We were locked out at the northern gate with a sizable zerg and three commanders just loitering around. We waited for about five minutes for a portal into SM, but then I think it slowly emerged that we didn't even have a Mesmer inside. So then people started banging on the northern gate, although our spawn was to the west.
It was quite amusing for so many people (including commanders) to all be like 'damn... I don't think that we should be attacking this side of SM' in chat, yet still be hesitating to actually pull away from the northern gate. I literally said 'fuck it, let's bail' and then ran off towards the west. It was at that stage the rest of the zerg slowly began to pull away.
Once we reached the Great Western Gate, I started to autoattack the gate and was all like 'C'mon I can't do this on my own!'. Suddenly, everyone piled in. People threw down rams (I recall seeing Rakel use siege at some point) and the gate quickly got knocked down to fifty percent. I was like 'damn, I wonder if we'll have enough supply' and some randomer told me that I should have checked with the zerg to see if everyone had to supply first. Cheekily, I defended myself by stating that I wasn't a commander (hey, there were three commanders all around who were not communicating at all!) and the chap replied 'That doesn't matter, [although] there are a lot of bad commanders around who just want the tag'.
I stayed quiet in /say after that, silently grinning to myself as we penetrated the castle's courtyard and managed to get enough rams up at the inner gate. As the folks who were in guild chat will testify, I was actually shitting myself because I thought that I'd just charged in without any thought for consequence and was believed that a wipe would be imminent before we could take SM.
However, I seem to be gaining the WvWvW gods' good graces recently, as MS were off wiping against AM. We took SM without any further hassle and things kind of tapered off after that. However, I can confirm that we still hold the castle - as of the time of posting.
In regards to how this speaks to the bigger picture, I feel that people (especially commanders) can sometimes be paralyzed into inaction by too many people talking at once. When in WvWvW, I think you have to maintain a clear picture as to what to do at any given time and then you have to feel at liberty to follow that up with action - no matter how many people are willing to come with you. I feel that, over the last few weeks, I have suffered from almost listening to too many people - especially when our little RPS zerg arrive on a map with another couple of commanders already there and then those people attempt to strongly suggest to me what to do with my own force. I will be returning to my old 'I'm going to do what I feel to be right - even if it does involve a certain element of risk' attitude over the next week and this should be highlighted on Saturday night.
We're still just in the lead ahead of Abaddon, but they're pushing hard in our off-peak hours. We can still totally win this if we keep at it. Sadly I'm engaged in some Tavern Quest tonight, otherwise I'd totally be joining the WVW event tonight- details can be found here:
We may need to gather the RPS massive later in the week for a big push to victory at this rate...
I'm off on friday so if anyone isn't working and fancies a last day 5 million golem stomp through the mists; I'm sure we can organise something
Hawksbane | Anthrax Lake | Fuschia Panthera | Ripley Hawkswind
I reckon it's going to be a close finish, and just snatching victory at the last minute is one of those things that Gunnar's Hold do well.
Of course come Friday night half the players will be nicely tidy on whatever beer/Bailey's/'tea' they can find, but that tends to make us (seem to) fight better/sing worse anyway...
Now now. No criticising Auntie Pzinget's Special Tea.
"Warrior is OP in WvW. Spec Leg Specialist, get on an Arrow Cart, and solo a 70-man zerg."
Might be a good time to start bringing my warrior to the wvw field. UFF, so hard to choose what to "main" on wvw, now when the new new content update is coming! ogmogmgo *overly excited* :/
John Thorns, Rakel, Elizia Crow, Shiro Kanjo, Edda Swan, Eril Stenr - kinjru.2439
I am a bit cautious regarding the new content for WvW. Apparently there will be bonuses like "reduced damage from siege" and "increased damage with siege weapons" which means that you might have to spec into the "increased damage" line if you want your arrow carts to be of any use. As it is now, a single arrow cart's damage is pretty laughable and doesn't stop anyone from bashing in your gate.
The leg specialist thing will probably be removed, since there are so many people complaining about it.
I doubt it will be the case that you have to have the new traits/skills to be effective. You can contribute in wvw at the moment even with an uplevelled character, and I'd imagine that not having the new skills will be similar to this - in fact, I think it will be even less important than being max level.

your character in whatever roll
Proof-reading: It's not hard!
I like that that link unfortunately shortens to /w...anks and more
claimed our keep in EB for RPS since I paid for most of the upgrades
It means our banner is flying from it and that we can place buffs on it to help our allies in WvW who are near it.
