WvW reset incoming:
In the run up to the end of free world transfers we saw large population changes as people settled in to their home servers. This means that the WvW teams being fielded by many of the worlds are now dramatically different. In recognition of this fact, and in light of the increased population stability that comes with paid transfers, we feel that this would be a good time to reset the ratings of all the servers. A reset at this point will allow the rating & ranking system to more quickly and correctly rate these (effectively) new WvW teams. Here’s how the reset will work:
1) We’ll let the current matchup play out. Since free transfers were available during the first part of this matchup we don’t want it to count towards the new ratings.
2) When the matchup rolls over on Friday, February 1st we’ll post the final ratings & rankings. The new ordering will determine the groupings for the next matchup as usual.
3) After the new matchup has started on February 1st we’ll reset all the ratings (and deviation & volatility) behind the scenes.
Because every world will have reset ratings the system will treat the February 1st matchup as the first matchup and will calculate the ratings accordingly. The new ratings will then be calculated normally in the way that you’re already familiar with. We expect several weeks of volatility while the ratings settle down but we believe that it will ultimately yield a more correct result more quickly than letting the current ratings persist. That also means that the coming month or two will be a fantastic time to fight for your world’s place in the rankings!
Additionally, we’re taking advantage of the reset to revisit some of the math behind the ratings. I’ll have more to post on that once we’ve crunched some numbers and made some decisions.

Mentioned making sure it get shared around a bit weeks ago... Haha. Anyway.
It'd be lovely to get a guild group up for tonight; we'll abuse the "goat" community mumble channel and run around being generally irritating or ploughing into the flank of zerglings. I'll try and get on for 7. All welcome, even if you've never WvW'd before.
Not sure if that's going to be good for us or not?WvW rankings reset
Apparently it didn't stick. There are a million possible reasons for that, I'll just give it another try.
I have already signed up for the general xcore for tonight, so I cannot run with you guys. However I am sure we'll spot each other's vague silhuettes a few times through the thick mists of steaming blood and melting flesh.
I can actually make a 7PM start tonight and had only pencilled myself in for some late Charlie action so can swap to an RPS group if there's one going.
Not sure what the points reset means- either they will reset all points and keep the tiers as they are or take recent scores as a basis for seeding the new tiers. Either way the next few weeks could be crazy as servers zoom up or down the rankings before things (hopefully) settle down again. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the final scores and we just need to try and have fun and train up a bit.
The new patch seems to have improved the culling issue with placeholder models and some big optimisations on the rendering engine. A bunch of us came round a corner to a large cluster of enemy packed onto a cap circle last night and they rendered fine at distance. I did have a load of enemy entirely disappear and reappear at one stage which never happened before but I think it was lag on my side. So overall things are looking up for WvW- shame it wasn't like this at launch but never mind...
My understanding is that next week's matchups will be as normal, but with everyone's scores reset to be the same. So our tier after next week will depend on how well we do against Far Shiverpeaks and whichever of the German servers makes it to T5.
As someone remarked on the GH forum, it's likely to have the result that Whiteside Ridge are the number 1 ranked server after next week, since they'll win by the largest margin against FoW and Vabbi...
As for tonight -- I'll come along for goat squad if it's running!

Saph, you pretty much nailed it. To be honest, I think this point reset is great, it makes sense and it will get rankings to a stable state much faster (albeit with more chaos in the first weeks).

Going to do some xcore tonight. Could also do with remembering to keep running EB jump puzzle, may miss the chance to do it so easily when the tiers get stronger.
Just watch our for invisible Charr.

Aww, I can't bear to see Quaggans crying. *grabs Hammer*
I'll be there.
Any plans for RPS action at the reset tonight? We could take a ninja group to a hostile borderland. Or we could join the main zerg. What do you think?

I would be up for that. Always enjoy reset nights and was quite disappointed I fell asleep before last one.
Edit: Thanks to everyone who joined int last night. Always great to see a bunch of RPSers running along.

probably won't be around tonight, but if I am then I'll be more useless than usual.
Could be that I'll join you guys lateron. This week was pretty busy with WvW events/duties and I would love to play a bit more PvE and other things.
Hmm. I don't think this week is going to be as comfortable as the last two, might be back to getting roflstomped... this will probably be good for us and get us thinking tactically again.
I'll probably be around for reset and as always, keen for a ninja (anything to avoid EB). Am up for some silliness beforehand though... Perhaps a scavenger hunt? Or we all roll level 1 characters and see who can run the furthest before they die horribly?(or maybe I should just level Madame Melchie and do something sensible... *sigh*)
Definitely a tougher week ahead, but then a lot of people were calling for that, so we'll see how it pans out.
I've been tempted to just focus on supply camps, easier on my pc and helps well with the score.
I'l probably see how it's going down in our BL before looking at other stuff to take- reckon we'll get hit there early by servers looking to make a point and needing some AOE raining down on them.
