Thanks, but it did not work.

It did however delete the overlay which I magically managed to fix decently once (I can't edit that reliably either). Does anyone have a good overlay that they can export (save) for me to use?

Okay, managed to fix the overlay. But still no luck with the shortcuts...

My mumble decided to completely stop working yesterday. It won't even load now, just comes up with a white screen, menu choices all greyed out, and a "ping" sound whenever I click anywhere. (Running version 1.2.3.a)

Tried shutting it down and restarting. Tried killing the process and restarting it. Tried shutting down and restarting entire PC. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. Tried uninstalling and installing the 1.2.4 release candidate. Tried uninstalling it again, deleting all reg entries, rebooting the PC, and a clean fresh install.... Nothing.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm gutted, as won't be able to take part in Call to Arms without any kind of VOIP.

    Geez, how does this happen?

I did an export from regedit of my Mumble/shortcuts key. Don't know if that'll help any. I've got PTT bound to mouse 4 (back) and command whisper to mouse 5 (forward).

But... the forum won't allow me to upload the .reg file. Copy this into a text file and rename it something.reg. You might need to change the keys somehow. God knows how. 1 is for PTT, 3 and 4 is for command whisper.

Are you guys eSmart enough to be helped at all by this? I could set up whatever keybinds you need and make a new export for you guys, if you want...

    Code:

My first thought was that it might be another application, seeing all the things you tried without success. This sounds similar to your problem:

    *fingers crossed*

Edit: someone also suggested trying to run Mumble with administrative privileges. Not sure what difference that might make, though.

    :embarrassed:

Figured it out. I appear to be a massive idiot. Lots of reinstalling all for nothing.

Every time I started mumble, it would appear on my PC screen but wasn't responding. Because the "connect to server" box was showing up on my 2nd screen where I couldn't see it. Because my 2nd screen is actually my TV and I was watching other channels...

Cheers for the help though Eso!

You have no idea how many times I've done this.

Oh yes, I think that did the trick! I made a .reg file with your text and imported that into the registry. I could then change the keys assigned to the shortcuts directly in Mumble. Thank you very much, Esoteric!

Glad to be of help! You also got the very strange "toggle overlay" keybind, which is actually pretty neat.

    Mic vs Headset?

Hopefully this is the right place to post this question. Apologies if not.

I have a Logitech G35 headset (the fancy 7.1 surround sound one) which I have used in the past for gaming. It sounded spectacular in WoW.

However, due to a recent TV upgrade, I have now been able to wire my PC up to a 2.1 "surround" system...and frankly it sounds awesome.

    PS2 sounds great...everything sounds great!

Then, one night - whilst playing PS2 - the wife was in bed and repeatedly banging her broomstick on the floor above to tell me to "turn it down" - I put my G35 headset on.

I really don't think the G35 was built for laser fire, explosions and machine guns. It sounded bloody awful. I don't know now if I have just been spoiled by the sub-woofer / 2.1 surround...

My question (sorry for waffling) - if I was to get a separate Mic to use on Mumble but keep my surround system on, will there be issues with echo / game noise in general?

Is there a mic that you would recommend that helps keep interference down to a minimum?

    Thanks

    First of all, nice setup!

Second, not really. I have Sennheiser headphones and a cheap desktop mic, and it seems to work alright. If you run into echo troubles, just go to the Mumble menu->Configure->Settings->Audio Input and select a method of echo cancellation.

    Thanks MrE.

But you say you are using headphones?

I don't want to use headphones if I can help it. With my current speaker set-up - I can practically stand in Indar warpgate and hear the TR fart in Esamir. (They do fart a lot, I think it's the lentils).

I'm just concious that if the game is booming out of speakers, a separate mic might not cancel out the game noise.

I've only ever used voice using the headset before.

There are settings on mumble to dip the noise when you are talking (or when others are talking, separate options tho).

The dip is barely noticeable to you, since you are normally pretty distracted while speaking anyway. If you like playing with your amazing-sounding speakers turned right up it might be the best option (since it can get kind of concerning hearing screams and explosions through someone else's mic).

Aah. Somebody already thunk of it! I'll get a mic with a long neck.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't mind hearing screams. It's hearing other peoples crisps crunching inside my own head that get's a bit disconcerting.

    Thanks again.

Hopefully see you all on there - judging by the videos, I do think you're possibly missing a slightly nasal, thick-sounding Northerner.

Am also aware that jumping straight in with jokes on a message board full of strangers who already know each other can often make one sound like a dick. I do that, but I'm not... I don't think.

I'll try to refrain until we've "met". Everyone seems pretty laid back around here.

Are you guys eSmart enough to be helped at all by this? I could set up whatever keybinds you need and make a new export for you guys, if you want...
The easiest way is to import them and then go to the keybinds screen and change the binds.

I personally don't like it when I can hear the other peoples' games when they're talking. It ticks me off quite a bit, in fact. Personally, I've been usin the G930 headset and find the sound incredibly good, even on the bass tones and the surround effect is very convincing. I can understand that you wouldn't necessarily want to shill out with that amount of cash though.

Usually I don't like it. But in this game hearing distorted gunfire coming through gives me the wartime radio operator feel, which is nice.
