Who can do it better than IGN? Your top 25 PC games since 2006?

As suggested in the IGN thread, list your top ten games since 2006 and we'll tally them up to make a top 25 list in two weeks. I'll count the first 10 if you want to include more, but please separate the two by some text.

    Alright, here's the list:
    1. Portal - 25 votes (and 2 for the Orange Box)
    2. Fallout New Vegas - 20 votes
    3. Dragon Age Origins - 19 votes
    4. Mass Effect 2 - 19 votes
    5. Alpha Protocol (sigh) - 17 votes
    6. Company of Heroes - 16 votes
    7. Dark Souls - 16 votes
    8. Witcher 2 - 16 votes
    9. Team Fortress 2 - 15 votes (and 2 for the Orange box)
    10. Stalker SoC - 15 votes

And round it out with the top 28:

    11. Deus Ex Human Revolution - 14 votes
    12. Minecraft - 13 votes
    13. Arkham Asylum - 11 votes
    14. Skyrim - 11 votes
    15. Mass Effect - 10 votes
    16. Walking Dead - 10 votes
    17. Witcher - 10 votes
    18. Arma II - 9 votes
    19. Fallout 3 - 9 votes
    20. Hitman Blood Money - 9 votes
    21. Mount and Blade Warband - 9 votes.
    22. Portal 2 - 9 votes.
    23. Bastion - 8 votes
    24. Bioshock -8 votes
    25. Crusader Kings II, Crysis, Just Cause 2, and Left For Dead 2 - 8 votes

    Mount & Blade: Warband
    The Walking Dead
    Alpha Protocol
    Arma II
    King's Bounty: The Legend
    The Witcher 2
    Portal
    Blood Bowl
    Hitman Blood Money
    Fallout New Vegas

Honourable mentions to Magicka, Trine, The Movies (didn't quite make the cutoff date), Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, the Total War series, Stalker, Hotline Miami, Braid, X-Com and World of Goo

Admittedly there are gaps in my experience. I haven't tried Dwarf Fortress (you need Matrix-vision or something!), Minecraft, or Amnesia.

    Again in no partcular order:

    Bastion
    The Walking Dead
    Mass Effect 2
    Dark Souls
    Alpha Protocol
    Team Fortress 2
    Portal
    World of Tanks
    Starcraft 2
    Left 4 Dead

All these games were either fun and compelling enough to keep me sinking time into them ages after release, or left me with a strong enough lasting impression that I don't forget them. The first two in particular, those two games are a rare sort for me, games that left me such a strong impression that I never wanted to play them again, because treating them in such a gamey fashion would feel like desecrating the first time experience.

I was tempted to mention games like Skyrim, Fallout: NV, Deus Ex: HR, etc. but at the end of the day they were basically pretty forgettable to me, even if their quality was undoubtedly high.

    Post-2006 games in Nalano-colored lenses:

    Company of Heroes
Screw you, I'm picking Mass Effect 3
    Empire: Total War
    Portal
    Saints Row 3
    Team Fortress 2
    Dragon Age: Origins
    Fallout: New Vegas
    Tropico 3
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Oh yeah: I went there.

    Honorable mention:

    Mirror's Edge
    The Witcher 2
    STALKER: Call of Pripyat
    Dragon Age: Origins
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer

Pre-2006 games that I really, really wish I could pick:

    Simcity 4
    Civilization 4

You mean Civ 4, right? Civ 5 is from 2010.

Tough one! First selection included 38 games, then down to 23. These remaining 10 are the games that weren't necessarily 'the best', but probably the ones I enjoyed most - or at least made a lasting impression. I did also try to include some variety with regards to different genres and series.

    • Alpha Protocol
    • Anno 1404
    • Burnout Paradise
    • Dragon Age: Origins
    • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
    • Mass Effect
    • Portal
    • Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
    • TrackMania United
    • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Lot's of stuff I greatly enjoyed and was arguably a greater achievement of game design, storytelling, design, etc. was left out, so I won't bother with honourable mentions. I'd probably come up with a different list of 10 in a week's time, anyway.

    Fate of the World
    Dungeons of Dredmor
    Machinarium
    Anno 1404
    Blackwell: Deception

That's it from me. I'm not saying these are/were the best, though - there are far too many games that I haven't played, even sticking to those that are on their way to being classics. Also, I'm aware that nearly all of them came out in the last year or two - I wasn't playing many games before then. I'm starting to catch up, but it's slow.

Honourable mention to good multiplayer browser games and a MUD - Kingdom of Loathing, Urban Dead and Discworld MUD. All of these miss the release date, but they're still being developed.

I'd rather not count expansions unless they're standalone or the game was released in the time period. 2006 is a code for this generation of console development, and WoW was definitely not in that period.

    Sure, why not?

    Alpha Protocol
    Bastion
    Bioshock 2
    The Binding of Isaac
    Fallout: New Vegas
    Hitman: Blood Money
    Left 4 Dead 2
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (not the base game though)
    Team Fortress 2
    World of Goo

As I expected, half of my list consists of games made by either Valve or Obsidian. However, I don't know why the letter B features so much more prominently than the others.

I don't know if this a PC-only thing... but I added 1 console game (Geometry Wars 2). If this is not allowed you can choose Geometry Wars 1 which was released in 2007 for PC.

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyll
    Hotline Miami
    Frozen Synapse
    Crysis
    Geometry Wars 2
    Super Meat Boy
    Minecraft
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Spacechem
    Trackmania 2

    Team Fortress 2
Portal (interesting that I got these games TOGETHER, count them as the Orange Box if you want)
    Skyrim
    Minecraft
    Mass Effect 2
    Bioshock
    Empire: Total War
    Civ V
    (yeah, fuck y'all)
    Fallout NV
    Dishonored

Honorable mentions: Shogun 2, Deus Ex HR, Just Cause 2, GTA 4 & Episodes, AssCreed Brotherhood, Frozen Synapse, XCom EU, Mount & Blade Warband, Braid, FTL, Torchlight, The L4Deads, HL episodes

I also think it's too bad SimCity 4 can't be here. Nothing since has come close.

I disagree, but here's not the place to go into that. Do as you please.
