It really is a shame that they too have taken the Activision route with pricing.
Network Addon Mod is, I believe, quite important. There's a bunch of overlay mods as well on Simtropolis, to give a more granular view as to what's going on.
I don't like Cities XL.
God bless the free Building Architect Tool and the legion of devoted modders on Simtropolis and SCDevotion.
Personally removing the extremely dated and annoying areas of influence for all buildings is a lot more important than city sizes. I always found it terribly restrictive (not to mention utterly unrealistic) that, say, a clinic with an ambulance couldn't go farther than two blocks away.
The level of simulation involved here more than make it up to me. I see it as a different feel, as if I were playing with an incredibly complex model city, which would somewhat explain the small sizes.
Plus, who knows, maybe some of the region maps are laid out differently so that you can make big cities from smaller squares.
Well, this looks promising enough despite our earlier pessimism. Still, after hearing all that locked out features in the beta, I think I'm better off waiting for the full game.
Bah! My blog is fulla bollox! What? Don't believe me?Here! Just look at it!
I was disappointed to find that this link chain only spanned a couple of posts. =(
(I thought it was going to be a scavenger-hunt self-referential spiral into increasingly ancient posts about your thoughts on Cities XL. Let me just encourage/remind you that this is still a future possibility and you are well on your way).
Wot I Think: The Game : an ongoing collaborative game-design experiment / comedic disaster here on the RPS Forums!
Kata vs. Kata : a game of simultaneous round-based predictive martial arts (like frozen synapse, but with punches)
My Games on Kongregate : "computainments" for your world wide web experience
If we end up with the same discussion (very likely), I may end up doing just that.
I considered doing that for RPGs and EULAs, but we argue that so often (and at such length) that one could write a treatise not so much on the topic but on our particular dysfunction on said topic.
I really wish I had remembered to turn off my internet connection while I was in the middle of a demo session.
Anyone see what happens?
Edit: Linking a blog entry about sandbox mode, fwiw:

Lots of talk about 'climbing the leaderboards' which is EXACTLY THE LAST THING I want to do when playing SimCity.

This is how far I read into that article:
GET TAE FUCK!competitive aspects ofSimCity
But I need to validate my experience by knowing that I did a better job than somebody somewhere.
I'm just pointing out the broader fact that I disagree with some of their objectives with this iteration of the game.
Leaderboards seem like a clear distillation of the this concept of misplaced priorities.

Leaderboards, in fucking Sim City?
Theres something more wrong than a competitive sand box sim?
Maybe there'll be a leaderboard for number of people killed in disasters.
Hi, I may have confused myself here. Can anyone confirm if the Beta over the weekend was a full NDA or just a NDA on images and video? I've read opposing comments, and thought we could comment on the game, just not post images/videos? Especially as some of the beta forums were public...

So, can you call on Godzilla or Alien spacecrafts as disasters?
Disasters weren't available or even revealed in the "beta".
