Except for the incessant crashing. The pointless unsolvable incessant crashing (often when I click "Save").

    I can't. do. it. anymore.

I have been working on a region for a while, but its untenable.

This. A thousand times this. Die EA, die a slow or quick death. I don't care. As long as it's painful or you realize your mistakes, just die.
Seriously this does sound amazing to me. You're not forced to rely upon your neighbor for utilities/jobs/education and you're not even forced to have a neighbor. But for multiplayer that sounds great; find a group of friends you trust and you can have an awesome codependent region.

I agree with Fiatil to a point - it sounds like it could be an interesting gameplay mechanic, but you don't have to play that way. You could do the same in SimCity 4 by linking up cities in your own region, the only difference here is that another person might control the other city. If you don't want to play that way, do what the DPRK tries to do and go it alone.

Alone and online at the same time. So, basically, EA is bringing to computer games the principles of internet porn.

I officially declare this a thing, now known as Nalano's Law.

Nalano's Law - As an online gaming discussion regarding restrictions grows longer, the probability of a post likening the topic to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea approaches one.
Soldant's Law - A person will happily suspend their moral values if they can express moral outrage by doing so.

The quote from Kotaku sounds entertaining to me. The guy who bulldozed his city was an idiot and he' blaming game mechanics on him being an idiot.

If you don't want the risk of simulating a neighbouring town crashing, play alone, play privately with friends and play sandbox mode on. Sandbox mode only disabled achievements and leaderboards (oh no!)

Your not installing it properly. Windows 7/8/vista UAC problems? I get no crashes.

If the single player experience works then that's fine. But as said, if all the stats/systems are designed for MP (say too high funding/resources/connections) then why should I be happy playing a restricted SP (due to nothing more than resource stats) because the focus was MP?

IE, I don't like farmville/C&C online type mechanics in any game. Because their not game mechanics, their profit funding mechanics.

[edit] Hahaha, put "windows 78" by mistake the first time. :P

There's the reason - you are obviously from the future.

Jees the article on the front page looks like the final nail in the coffin. Definitely not buying this, hopefully EA will learn something. Or someone like Paradox will learn something observing it fail.

I'll buy it when it's cheaper and working fine. Until then!

Nobody will learn anything and we'll repeat this all again in a week or two when Starcraft 2:HOTS is out.

I'm going to do what Sketch is doing, wait until it's in a better shape and then buy it when it's on sale.

Let's not pretend to be surprised by queues on release on an always-online game. Anyone who didn't add +2 to release date in their mind is naive and should be shaken a bit so that they might become less so.

Why? Their Server engineers ought to be more professional.

Thing is, the initial rush is probably something that isn't cost effective to prepare for. It'll calm down a lot in a day and even more in three days time. Since no one ever gets it right, I'm rather sure that getting it right would cost more than the bad rep for three days of queues.

Couple thousands dollars, if the infrastructure is designed properly. Hence the professionalism comment. The cost of bad publicity is probably way worse.

So far it hasn't really proved it.

For all the bad publicity that Blizzard got over Diablo 3, they still shipped over 10 million units. They get a bad time every expansion for WoW, yet year on year they were selling more and more copies until the most recent one I believe, which most people gave out about the setting more than anything else.

I don't care. Try to sell me a lame duck and I'll happily pass on the purchase. I stick to games that, you know, work. :P

I guess it'll work like Wings of Liberty, as in you can play offline, but you won't get those all-important achievements.
