When I first arrived here, I was very impressed with how respectful even heated discussions in the forums were. The absence of personal attacks was quite noticeable. I'd like to see a return to that too

Edit: Although, with a couple of notable feuds, by and large this is still the 2nd best forum I have seen on the internet.

Hah I suppose it was. sorry, that was unintentional. 2nd best, out of the whole internet it pretty good! The most polite place I have seen is the Bit Tech forums. They've always seemed jolly decent to me and I would struggle to recall any nastiness in there at all. These two places are a bit of a refuge when I can't think of a single other popular site that is not riddled with nastiness.

If only it was about people just not liking things, however the situation instead is one where when presented with information/arguments that undermine their world view certain individuals react in an unexcellent manner Vs re-examining their assumptions/beliefs, and become increasingly more and more hysterical at every stage. We go from flat denial, to accusation/ad homs (Shill/Apologist), twisting of words/misrepresentation (So let me get this straight, you're saying that you're in favour of death camps then?') through to plain old SHOUTING in some rather extreme cases. Some people take it in their stride and ignore the grief, others are outright dissuaded from posting because they simply don't want it.

The difference is Nalano I'll back up my words with a position/rationale. For instance I can't get behind your assertion that piracy is somehow an act of protest because (as stated in the closed thread) CDProjekt bent over backwards with The Witcher 2 to 'add value' to the game and they still got pirated to 1/5 Vs every legitimate copy sold at launch. What were those people protesting exactly?
