The thing that has me really miffed is why Cameron and Labour's Plasticine Man both put out statements about how terribly sad they are about it. Why say anything?

I'm not Catholic, so this affects me not at all, but if I were the Catholic church I'd aim for a new pope with a bit more PR savy. Pope John Paul II was like a lovable old man, so he could come off well even when he was condemning the gays or dealing with the abuse scandals, etc, etc. But this new pope that just resigned always came off like a James Bond villain to me. He didn't really have a way with words at all and always looked a bit sinister.

If the Catholic church wants to put their past behind them and move into the 21st century I think they are going to have to start thinking about the pope as a Public Relations guru as much as a theologian. They need a pope with a bit of charisma.


But, like I said, I'm not Catholic so I have no idea why I care.
