You know, I sometimes ask myself the same question when I'm bored with the game I'm currently playing. Usually, around that time a game comes around that I find to be so incredibly brilliant that all my doubts are instantly swept away (at least for the time being). I'm looking at you, Borderlands 2.

HoN players are a special brew. For me the game without rage is not the same. And if I'm winning, I trashtalk. It's innate. Always within the social/karma rules, of course, no "retard" or f bombs.

Maybe the Op's question indicates they are looking for a way to make games more fulfilling, if so i'd suggest trying multiplayer games that require complex cooperation, as that's a skill that you can transfer to other situations.

Reminds me of of the general rule of thumb for scientific articles et al: If the title is in the form of a question, and the question can be answered with "no," don't write the article.

About every third New Scientist and Scientific American article seem to do so, especially in their editorials, enough that the joke's been made before.

If I meant peer-reviewed treatises, I'd say so. I meant the trade mags - y'know the stuff that's guilty of linkbait as much as everybody else.
The OP hasn't chipped in so far with a response to peoples opinions, so I'd go with B0rsuks assessment.
As regards the subject, I think the phrase 'mileage may vary' springs to mind. I think one of the positives that comes out of playing games is a degree of mental exercise at the end of the day, and certainly it can help you improve your organisation skills if you're doing MP/Co-op a lot as well.
