    It's all pages for me. Actually getting the handshake seems to be most of the time taken to load any given page.

    But actually it's generally speaking a good idea to wrap any JS driven dynamic content, especially API calls, in $(document).ready(function(){

    }); just in case there's a problem with anything. By the time people's eyes get to the content that's added (unless it's all of it) the calls should have made - this just stops them being run until the document's fully loaded.

    Arrested Development, alone (originally a FOX series) is worth the price. (Though I heard the new Netflix season was a bit of a letdown.)
    Have also heard good things about House of Cards (both the UK and US versions.)

    I really enjoyed the old BBC house of cards and season one of the US one, but I totally bounced off of the second season. Need to give it another go...

    Utopia on 4OD is frankly amazing btw...

    I thought the Netflix season was genius. Individually the episodes are perhaps a little confusing, but i must have watched the season 3 times at least...

    Naaaah, the Netflix season was nowhere near as good as the first three. I believe the most recent one, the one released through Netflix was season 4. Season 3 is the one with MR.F, right?

    The first three are all amazing. Which is why the most recent one was disappointing.

    If you're in the UK and want to make netflix palatable, I can't recommend this enough;

    http://www.unblock-us.com/

    Gives access to a whole load of different countries content. The other half gets a lot of mileage out of the Scandinavian ones, as apparently even they have better English language content than native English speakers get lumped with.

    This is as good a place as any to ask I suppose: I've got hola unblocker on a browser, which is free. What's the difference between that and unblock-us to make it worth paying for?

    Hey. I need to kidnap this thread for some advice from our UK based players
    I decided to try something completely different and I applied for a job in UK. I am currently trying to wrap my head around salaries as none was give in the job description. It's a customer service job (no call center, includes some qa and billing, no leading). I tried to Google some info on salaries but those are all over the place. Anyone some insides why that is and/or tips/experience?

    Most places like you to propose your own wage, in my experience. A lot of people in the UK undervalue their labour.

    Yeah, that's the thing. I'm trying to get an idea what would be a good proposal but the salaries I am able to find tend to be all over the place and it's hard to find something that is neither under nor over value.

    If they offer a range of wages, you'd be mad asking for anything other than the maximum. Same as any other negotiation, you'll end up with a better salary if you start out asking for a larger one.

    Is it senior or entry? Remember you should also be concerned about holiday entitlement. Is it salaried or hourly? Is it through an agency or direct?

    Also, is it London based? Salaries are often around 20% higher in London than in the midlands or north of England. And when in the process do you need to indicate your salary expectation? Once they offered you a job you can pretty much ask for whatever you like because by that point they've decided they want you so will just negotiate you down rather than dropping you all together. If you ask for too much too early in the process they might decide to not interview you.

    It's entry and directly employed at and by the company. I currently have very little info on salary as the ad didn't have any info on that. Also I am pretty sure that it's salary and not hourly. Not 100% but seems unlikely.

    And it's not London. Somewhat south of what (if I remeber correctly) the British call Warehouse City

    So far I was not required to propose a salary expectation for the application but I guess it will come up during the interview (well, when else ). So I am trying to get an idea what a "good" number would be. I checked other job ads and basically found a range of about 10k per month. Which really didn't help.

    Yeah I'd really doubt that for customer service job with some QA work. What do you expect? I mean is it a specialist job or could it be something anyone could do to some degree?

    Try glassdoor.com, may need you to register, but a lot of people share salary information for specific grades or roles with companies on this site.

    Don't your labour unions collate this kind of information? In Sweden, that is one of the important services that unions provide.

    Not that I'm aware of. British unions seem to put most of their effort into attempting to cripple the nation's transport infrastructure during major holiday periods. And before anyone accuses me of being on the side of The Man think about this - if the workers want to thumb to The Man then surely they should strike when productivity would otherwise be high. Striking in December has a markedly reduced impact on profitability since most businesses allow for the fact that many staff will be on leave anyway. Sorry, I got a bit ranty...

    Prospects.ac.uk is focussed on graduate jobs and has some useful information about salaries generally. Might be useful, might not.

    Probably. My line of work doesn't have a union but the Association of Illustrators keeps a lot of information about pricing work, it's one of the main things that they do. You need to be a member to access it though.

    Also the idea that unions in the UK would strike for any reason other than feeling that they absolutely have to is ridiculous, especially with the way the media portrays strikes these days...

    It's a bit of a mix surely. They strike because they want to protect jobs. However, the timing of the strikes often coincides with Christmas which seems more than a little odd. Also, they fairly often cite reasons other than saving jobs for striking. Safety is often given as a concern which doesn't really help the argument when everyone knows how concerned they must be about the jobs. They may also be concerned about safety but they'd win the confidence of more people if they were up front about their concerns over jobs. Whilst I think that the concept of labour unions is utterly brilliant I think that too many of them in the UK have become dominated by egomaniacs who get into pissing contests with the employers of their members (eg the British Airways fiasco of a few years ago - legitimate concerns about pensions existed but they seemed to get swamped by the egos of the leaders involved).
