Youtube channel playlist/graphics/etc

Hey guys, since I suggested the idea, I have been assigned the task of creating the RPS planetside youtube channel (which you can fing using "RockPlanetShotgun"). This is a place where the outfit can pool its videos together so that playlists are much easier to search and manage.

Its just bare bones at the moment, which is where some of you will hopefully come in useful:


Submitting videos:

First of all, I could use a list of all of the serious video makers who would like to potentially have a playlist, or who would like to have videos (decent RPS planetside related stuff only) posted.

The aim is that, once things are set up, I will give the Username and Password to a select few individuals, who will be able to keep it up to date and ultimately make sure that it doesnt die if one of us is busy or inactive.

Playlists will most likely be set up either by user, or by event (i.e. silly mondays, purple wednesdays, strategic thursdays).

In the case of the bigger produced videos, such as Quantas fabled "PROMOTIONAL VIDEO", we could publish those from the channel itself, but for other things, such as recordings of specific night events, it makes sense to have them as playlists.

So far, I can safely assume that the following members will be using the channel:

-JaguarSkills
-CMaster
-QuantaCat

I will need both your in game name, youtube account name and any other info you would like displayed, such as channel description for the playlist (if we decide to go for one per user).


Channel Graphics:

The channel is for the whole outfit, so it makes sense that user submitted content is at the heart of things!

Because of this, (and because I don't have the time or willpower to do this myself) I would like to ask if there are any users proficient in graphic design/photoshop/gimp/etc who would like to give designing the channel background a shot.

Ideally it would be fairly simple, but the design is more or less open ended for now. The only thing I would suggest is that it include the Rock Planet Shotgun or Rock Paper Shotgun logo somewhere in it, so that people can visually associate us with RPS. Along with this, any other graphics that youtube needs, like profile picture etc could also be created.

If there are more than one person who are up for the challenge, it may be possible to hold some kind of vote to determine which one you guys would prefer, though theres nothing to say we couldnt use aspects of more than one design.

Bare in mind, max file size is 1MB for both avatar and background.


Suggestions:

In general, this is meant to simplify things, which means that none of this is truly necessary. It seems though, that people are much more receptive to graphics and pretty pictures (I know I am), which is why it would be nice to beautify the page.

So if people could get back to me with ideas/suggestions and any interest in creating videos or graphics for us, that would be brilliant!


Video makers wanted:

Im interested in finding out if there is anybody who would be interested in making videos to document our strategic nights. Im thinking along the lines of 10-20 minute videos where key strategic or funny moments from the night were compiled together to create something remeniscent in style to the videos of CHKilroys arma/dayz videos:

If we could get somebody who is competent in video capture and editing to create something like this, that would be great. We have a lot of awesome coverage of the silly events, which is great, but we could also do with a few videos to showcase our more competetive side.

I figured that snapshot style videos would be a lot less boring to a viewer than hours of footage.. People will see the fun side of our tactical nights!

Dunno if I'm proficient enough in graphicsy photoshopping to make the background, but if ideas is what you are after, a fairly simple graphic incorporating the Rock Paper Shotgun logo (so it's recognisable), perhaps bastardised to read 'Rock Planet Shotgun' and I guess some atmospheric in-game imagery could be good. Empty landscape, or artsy detail is probably best, so as not to distract too badly from the videos. Giraffe camo = bonus. Some of the bright coloured smoke/plasma in past videos looked really good, perhaps try that in background image (might be too distracting tho)? Have the image running off to either side at the top, blending into a block colour (black?) background below and to the far sides to keep it elegant and low file size.

Fairly boring suggestions, but appropriate to the purpose and not too invasive/silly (it's just the backdrop, let the silliness in the videos shine out). Slick and tasteful would be what makes it look good, using a perspective in the game that people have not seen before would make it interesting/memorable (like a well-framed landscape shot, or well composed close-up image of some detail).

edit: Perhaps black and white/limited colour, to emphasize the auteurness of our sophisticated laser cowboy shorts?

Yes, I know I draw like a five year old child. I didn't really ever get beyond that. Basically though, the Vanu trinity of the logo but with rock, planet, shotgun instead. Perhaps too complex and such.

If anyone think the idea - the idea, not the drawing (lol) - is good I can pitch it to CH1LL1E (a member of RPS and friend) that can actually draw.

If I were to design it myself, I would probably go for a double border design at the sides, perhaps with the logo at top.

It would be similar to the bf3 promo images, where you have tanks rolling, soldiers and planes... In fact, something similar to the Planetside loading screen image with the three people, but JUST vanu, and perhaps in black and white.

So on the left, the tanks, planets etc fly slightly left, and on the right, slightly right... if you get what I mean here...

Im not going to do it, but I thought something like that could be cool. Either using screenshots, or hand drawn artwork, or even a combination of the two, making screenshots stylised.

When I started this I thought I was pretty decent with photoshop. Now I've finished I feel I should probably think twice before even using paint. I think the idea is put across at least;

Me, nick, jag and mitch have been discussing this, especially jaguars last suggestion, and I think we should really focus on the simple design of this.

Similar designs that use a 3 colour system (possibly the same colours as above) would be really nice, so if possible could people produce some designs along these lines.

I liked Rizlars idea of riffing on the existing RPS logo, here's another stab at it;

Wow! We clearly have some real talent here! I like everything I'm seeing here, but if I were to pick one favourite, then I'd go with the Scythe-in-the-moon image. Although this last one is pretty too.

How about a giraffe silhouette imposed on a planet (auraxis) then? Think of the Scythemoonthing. Like jaguars text quite a bit, we should use that somewhere. For logo purposes it would be better if everything except the text was cropped away.

If you're going for the cracked mud, I made a tiling texture of that that never really got used for work so I could dig it out if it'd be helpful as I can see the mirror in the middle there :3

Or if people wanted other textures for similar things I can provide.

If we're going for a pretty non custom logo and sticking to rps standars apricots text like so would work nicely.
