Thread: Radiance RPG Funtimes

November at the very earliest as I only get back at the end of October.
I just need some bits and pieces so that I can flesh out the regiment's history a little as well as design combats so that they will be more suitable to your play styles.
This will be my first time GMing but I will run everything past a friend of mine who is an extremely experienced GM (and is currently writing a source book while on tour) so hopefully things should work out OK in the end.

If I can be a heavy weapons guy I want be a heavy weapons guy. Alternatively, a dude with a melta-gun. (I'll check out the actual rules once I get home.)
I prefer hiveworlds to deathworlds, but will go with the majority.

There are classes that specalise (and start with) heavy and 'special weapons'. The only stipulation is that if 2 people want to be a heavy weapons guy, for example, then they both will begin using the same weapon. I will also be restricting the use of heavy weapons because in 40k they are massive and will be extremely difficult to move in confined spaces or difficult ground.
I would prefer if we only have 1 support class (psyker or ogryn for example) as having lots of specialists will detract from the mooks vs goons feel and put things into Rogue Trader territory. One other thing about classes is that you will each have a comrade (aka a deus ex mechana generator who will be suffering a number of plot driven deaths) who can pick up the slack if we don't have a medic or an operator for instance.
Ogryns do indeed start with a ripper gun (and can eventually upgrade to an autocannon) and can have an Imperial Aquila stapled to any part of their anatomy that you may choose. They are very restricted in the equipment that they can use though as unless it is massively strong they will simply break it (usually by hitting someone with it). They sound quite an interesting class actually as although they have obvious advantages in combat they are extremely thick, have a crippling fear of confined spaces and tend to react badly if someone that they like dies (like one of the previously mentioned comrades....).

Hmm, a heavy weapons partnership is an intriguing idea. One guy shoots the thing, the other plays a loader/spotter/scout role? (EDIT: Although that might be more a comrade thing?)
Although I would be delighted to be a Weapon Specialist with a meltagun, if that is acceptable. (I like how they can take 3 non-heavy, non-exotic specialisations so I could branch out with training in other destructive but utterly impractical weaponry as well...)

There is no need to get too involved at this stage, all I really need to know is if you would prefer to do close range firefights or sniping :)

Our intrepid adventurers and their large posse of extremely competent black river enforcers, plus their smaller auxiliary posse of fairly incompetent townsfolk, successfully ambushed the vicious outlaw Socrates Gault and his gang of thugs and killers. Those poor bastards never stood a chance, as the posse stampeded a thousand cows through their camp and picked off the disoriented survivors from the bluffs, from where they had excellent natural cover and their targets had very little cover from them. Gault and one of his right hand men managed to dive beneath a wagon and stay there, despite a fear grenade from Harlander, and kept grimly firing at the posse as their men died in droves around them. Half of the townsfolk and two of the enforcers fell to return fire, but it was real fish-in-a-barrel stuff as the outlaws were hit from several directions and never had a chance to regroup and recover - not to mention about a third of them fell beneath the thundering hooves of the stampede.
Harlander went up and down the cliff like a monkey using some ghost-rock-powered climbing aids he'd tinkered up while waiting for sundown, cutting the ropes forming the makeshift corral and then hurling a flash bomb to startle the cattle and get the stampede moving. Lowkey was able to manfully overcome his crippling fear of stampedes to come to Luke Canton's rescue after Sutter's right-hand man was felled by a shot from Gault's LeMat revolver.
Sutter, after being freed, had the enormous pleasure of finishing off the last outlaw himself, striding to the edge of the stampede and putting a bullet into him as he sheltered in the lee of a tent, at which point the last remaining member of Gault's gang fell backwards beneath the rushing hooves, never to rise again.
Gault himself. despite being shot twice and electrocuted twice by Harlander's lightning gun, proved very hard to kill. After it was all over he was found to still be clinging to life, and his comatose corpse was taken to Exposition for the reward - which had already been claimed by the black river enforcers, and the few surviving townsfolk from those who Lowkey's silver tongue had seduced into an adventure that was far out of their depth. The marshal had kept back $500 for our boys though, and sharing that and the spoils of the outlaw camp left them about $250 richer per man.
The Massacre at Gault's Gulch
A couple of weeks later the Lazy S Cattle drive halted a day out of Denver while Sutter (and the recovered Luke Canton) headed into town to negotiate the sale of the cattle.

It was hard work, both finding the time to do the preparation and set the maps up and also staying sober and paying attention for entire Sunday evenings. I'll be a lot more understanding of Lowkey when he does skip weeks in future, that's for sure. Speaking of which, I'll probably enjoy an rpg-free Sunday next week.
Speaking of rpgs and Sundays, what happens now? X-kot, are you going to do more Radiance?
Also, in the fullness of time and definitely not right now, do you guys fancy continuing the campaign? There's another couple of books of Blood Drive if you're interested.

For completeness' sake, in case we're ever continuing this adventure, I'm saying X-kot's character wasn't happy with the idea of deliberately heading off to kill 40-odd people and went off to pray about it. He was still troubled when he came back and ended up drinking with Jesse in the saloon and since he wasn't used to it ended up too sick to go with. Jesse was drunk for five days, and ended up getting fished out of the gutter and dried out by the returning posse.

Yay for victory! Sounds like some rough justice was meted out - nice going, guys, and thanks to you, PW, for running the campaign on the spur of the moment (ooh, that would make a terrible Deadlands title).
I'm sorry to report that I won't be able to resume running Radiance or even continue weekend RPing. One of the Kickstarter projects that I backed, for a local organization publishing the work of young writers, has succeeded, and they've accepted my help as a production volunteer. The work will likely eat up quite a bit of my weekends, so I'm going to bow out of gaming for now.
Thanks for all of the fun; good luck with the other campaigns!

Soooo what are people thinking for another campaign? Perhaps continue deadlands or something else? I only really know the warhammer rpgs, perhaps a dark heresy? Otherwise I have been looking at Call of Cthulhu but have no experience in it.
