Simcity 2013: Rock, Paper, Simoleons region chat

This thread is for those playing in or interested in joining the 16-slot region Rock, Paper, Simoleons, on the server Europe West 5. Here we can coordinate various region-wide upgrades, such as university departments and projects, great works, city hall improvements etc. We can also discuss deals and specialisations. For general game discussion, using the original SimCity disucssion thread might be more appropriate.

Invites were sent to those who had previously expressed an interest and who have registereds on the server EUW 5. Send a friend request and an Origin chat message to EsotericReverie if you want to join.


The rules:
- One city per player.
- No arsehats.

Important! Due to the fact that some of us have limited/deluxe editions and some do not, reclaiming someone else's city might not be possible because of the difference in available additional content. This left three cities unplayable for most players in the old region. So, please, please, do not claim a city that you do not intend to play. Also, see The rules, above.



EDIT: players and connections. All cities in each quadrant are interconnected by highway, rail connections sometimes go between quadrants.

Southern quadrant:

Western quadrant:
Yargh -(rail)- Seigous (also to Ridebird and Ninjadeath)

Fafhrd42 -(rail)- Zarkk (also to empty sicty in Eastern quadrant)

Easter quadrant:
Empty city connected to Fafhrd42 and Zarkk by rail)
3 other empty cities interconnected by rail
All other cities are currently empty.

I've claimed the only (I think) slot without any natural resources, down in the southern quadrant. I intend to build a tourist resort and a haven for the wealthy, on the islets there. I would be much obliged if someone would build an industrial city down there somewhere, and supply me with power and sewage treatment capacity. :)

And a tip: it is possible to skip the tutorial, by exiting to main menu as soon as you're able to access the "..." button, for those who were not aware.

I'm in, filling the gap between Eso and Yargh I believe on a flat plain to the west. Currently I am focusing on building up my industry (I landed on a hotbed of coal, wahey!) and making sweet, sweet money. Ultimately I'm flexible with my final strategy depending on the demands of my neighbours, as currently my city has a decent amount of infrastructure in place.

I grabbed a spot in the north, just SE of David L (I think). I've got coal and ore so I'll head for alloys. Probably won't build a university. May try to transition to tourism/gambling at some point for sustainable money.

So. It's fairly clear this game is all smoke and mirrors and is quite broken. I'll see if I'll pop on any more, but I am getting increasingly tired of stuff breaking for no reason and people acting completely irrational and randomly. It's obvious it's NOT simulation but rather intertwined smoke and mirrors.

Also, jesus christ with the plot size.. Come on. It's soooooooooo small.

edit: I am heavy industry and have a lot of alloys that I'm selling. Currently stuck since industry requires education but use no educated sims/it has no effect, so I am going backwards and slowly bankrupting due to no developments..

Oil is so damn frustrating. Not only is crude basically worthless, but the trucks that come to pick it up are sooooooo damn slow (and it's not just that my traffic was awful). And I can't build oil storage on a trade port unless I level up either my Trade HQ or my Oil HQ, and levelling up the Oil HQ is impossible without oil storage on the trade port! ARGH. Going to have to build a processor factory and game processor sales to get the Trade HQ levelled, but my worker balance got skewed because a chunk of my low income housing wouldn't up-densify, so now I'm bleeding 3,000/hr.

Oh, I do think it is simulated, and that this is the problem, because there are so very many agents, several hundreds of thousands probably, in a city with 100k pop, that they cannot afford to be very clever. Which means they sometimes don't do the "rational" thing, and also sometimes they get bugged in weird ways.

Agreed on the plot size. I'd appreciate if they had a hard pop cap or something instead, if that is the problem.

What do you say to starting an international airport great work? I haven't got the money, and none of the resources myself, I'm even having a hard time staying in the black, but a boost to the tourism would probably be a great help.

Also, I'm getting the Invalid license. Error code: Invalid cipher (0x0006) problem at startup, so now I cannot start the game anymore...
