Some Stalker Fallout? 1C Proposes A Nuclear Union

By Jim Rossignol on June 22nd, 2012.

1C and Men Of War men Best Way are making a post-apocalyptic RPG called Nuclear Union. This is basically party-based STALKER/Metro in the Men Of War engine.

Uh huh.

It’s as if they sat down in a meeting and said “What would really make Jim Rossignol’s head explode on a Friday afternoon?” Well, they came pretty damned close. A bit more on this, including the first trailer, below.

Men Of War: Condemned Heroes Breaks Free April 12th

By Adam Smith on April 10th, 2012.

Looks a little like the Zone

Court-martialed officers are given the chance to redeem themselves by signing up to fight alongside their fellow condemned in the bloodiest battles of a bloody great war. It sounds like it could be a science fiction concept, with electrified manacles, guns that are also handcuffs and remote controlled explosive dogtags that bark out orders in the abrasive tones of an angry prison warden played by Malcolm McDowell. No such thing. Men Of War: Condemned Heroes tells the story of a soviet penal battalion during World War II. To the Eastern Front then and a slightly more unusual story of that many-storied war to discover. Trailer below, game due on April 12th.

Men Of War: Assault Squad GOTY Is Worth Buying

By Jim Rossignol on February 9th, 2012.

In retrospect, I should probably have made more of a fuss over the superb Men Of War: Assault Squad, because it was one of my favourite experiences of last year. Yes, it was a co-op/multiplayer remix of the original, and all the DLCs meant the pleasure was sort of fragmented, but actually I spent many meticulous hours playing through this game both solo and with my MoW-playing friends, and the result is always one of the best RTS experiences I can think of. The original game and all the DLCs are now being bundled together in a Game Of The Year edition. 1c explain: “The pack totals 25 skirmishes, over 50 multiplayer maps, 5 playable nations, over 100 infantry weapons and over 200 vehicles.” It only seems to be on GamersGate so far, but I expect it will pop up elsewhere today.

I’ve posted the most recent devs versus game video below to provide the clueless with a taster.

Russian In: Red Orchestra 2 Screenshots

By John Walker on July 12th, 2011.

Snowball fight over there!

Also in new screenshot news come these images from Red Orchestra 2: Heroes Of Stalingrad. Due out 30th August, the sequel from Tripwire boasts improved multiplayer, and a Stalingrad campaign using the multiplayer maps, which will let you play as either the Germans or the Russians – two sides that don’t get much attention in first-person gaming. You can see the latest images below, along with a peak of the Rising Storm mod that Tripwire are sponsoring.

Mired And Admired: Off-Road Drive

By Tim Stone on July 4th, 2011.

Every year in the UK, recreational 4WD users crush 33,070 primroses, wake 6,312 dormice, and ruin the reveries of 451 nature poets. They’re a menace and yet irresponsible game companies like 1C continue to glorify their activities through titles such as Off-Road Drive. I was so disgusted by the premise of this upcoming release, that I almost returned the preview code, and nearly didn’t spend most of yesterday happily jockeying Land Rovers and Jeeps through Karelian swamps and Rocky Mountain gorges. MOWAS Updated, Arrival Of DLC

By Jim Rossignol on April 27th, 2011.

Paddington Station! What have they done to you?
Men Of War: Assault Squad has had another patch, which fixes up some balancing issues and adds a couple of new vehicles. You can get the patch here if you need to. There’s also some paid-fo downloadable content now available, which is a pack of five new maps for assault zones multiplayer mode. Sigh. I love this game.

Men Of War: Fresh Beta, Release Date

By Jim Rossignol on February 3rd, 2011.

Men Of War is one of my favourite RTS games, because it’s brilliant. The new skirmish/multiplayer version of the game, Assault Squad, is currently in an open beta. If you have even the vaguest interesting in ordering tanks and tiny men to their deaths, then you should have a go at it. 1c also send word that digital and retail copies will be available February 25th. So not long to go! The co-op games played in the previous beta were among my gaming experiences of 2010 – as detailed here – so I can’t wait for this game to be on general release.

King’s Bounty Devs Announce Royal Quest

By John Walker on October 22nd, 2010.

Will there be wives? WIVES?!

Coo, here’s something good. New MMOs are announced every day now. There’s an extraordinary glut of them, most of which will never trouble your attention, being free-to-pay conversions of Korean et al epics that have 50 million players, none of whom you’ll ever meet. However, when the new MMO being announced is being developed by they behind King’s Bounty, everyone should suddenly sit up and take notice. Royal Quest, 1C’s first MMO, is being developed by the Russian mad geniuses at Katauri Interactive.

Set in a world called Aura, the game is centred around capturing castles and gathering gold, and while only a little is known at this point, if it captures the spirit of Space Rangers or King’s Bounty, then this could be a real treat. We’ve got as many details as I could find below, along with some gorgeous art, and the four (rubbish) screenshots that have so far appeared.

Jungle Beats – Men Of War: Vietnam

By Jim Rossignol on October 19th, 2010.

Vietmen Of War? It’s a missed opportunity, certainly. But nevermind, because there are helicopters, F4s, flamethrowers, tanks, and TINY HEROES doing their heroism! With those big jungles and smoky skies Men Of War: Vietnam certainly looks the part, and it’s threatening to be one of those games that stops me from being a useful human being, especially since it has 4-player co-op. I’d love to see this game get properly opened up to modding, because the failure of that Stalker mod is a shame, plus it’d be awesome to see some other stuff brought in. The same engine used to make a sci-fi game could really be something. Anyway, to the trailer! Below!

NuPics: Red Orchestra- Heroes Of Stalingrad

By Alec Meer on June 7th, 2010.

Damnable over-long game names. YOU DENY US OUR PUNS, YOU BABBLING SWINE. Grr. Anyway (I lose track of how many posts I’ve written whose second sentences begin with ‘anyway’. Anyway.) at the 1C event during which I cooed at Men of War: Vietnam the other week, I was also privy to a few more details on 2011’s long-awaited sequel to mod-gone-pricetaggy FPS Red Orchestra. The series began life as a multiplayer title, but this one, sometimes referred to as RO2, will feature a solo mode.

While the game itself wasn’t playable at the event, and the only video footage was a slideshow of screenshots, I do have in my possession a clutch of new screens and facts. To see them, you must dance widdershins around Ludlow Cathedral at 4am on the first night of the summer solstice. The ancient legends do tell of another way to access them, but you could never hope to work it out.

Surf this, Charlie – Men of War: Vietnam

By Alec Meer on June 4th, 2010.

Turns out there’s not one, not two, not two, not two, but two new Men of War games due later this year. Jim forcibly craned your head towards MoW: Assault Squad last week, but now there’s Men of War: Vietnam too. Which I a) am quite excited about, as ‘Nam is not a territory RTS has often trod in and b) played for a little while a couple of weeks ago.

Optimus Primed: Rig’n’Roll

By Alec Meer on May 26th, 2010.

Oh yes. I have review code for Rig’n’Roll, “the ultimate truck driving experience.” This name and that statement alone were enough to ensure I was going to try this anyway, but the promise on the back of the box that it has an “exciting story with an unexpected finale” has pushed my intruigometer to maximum. Unexpected how? Turns out the driver’s in a coma, imagining driving a truck? Or it’s not a truck at all, but a sentient crustacean in truck form? Or it turns out the truck was in purgatory, waiting to be reunited with the people it loves the most? Nah, no-one’d write something that silly. It’ll be a short while before I can fire this rare beauty up, but in the meantime let’s look at some videos. RAWK videos.
