I Can’t Think Of A Headline Gag: Harvey’s New Eyes

By Alec Meer on October 8th, 2012.

I also can't think of a caption. I'm going to blame writing 4000 words about XCOM

John mostly didn’t like one of the earlier Edna & Harvey point and click adventure games very much, but then other things John doesn’t like include Bath Spa’s loveliest cinema, dancing and -REDACTED- so what does he know? (Quite a lot when it comes to adventure games, actually). He saw some promise though, and perhaps that will be the case in this new Edna & Harvey game, and though I can tell you absolutely nothing of use about it I want to post about it purely because the subtitle HARVEY’S NEW EYES made me giggle for reasons I don’t entirely understand. German point-n-clicker Edna & Harvey: The Breakout, which we mentioned last week, has received its first trailer. And thanks to the magic of Mr Charles Vaughn we now have a version of it we can stream. Charles is our hero.

Daedalic plan to release Edna & Harvey in May in Germany, although an English-language version has not been given a date.

Germany really seems to be standing up for the point and click adventure. With varying results. At the shinier end is Deck13’s Ankh, but more often by the time they’re in our English-speaking hands the humour is completely lost by poor translations and localisation. Nevermind the crappy puzzle design that’s currently endemic throughout the genre.

So, is there hope on the horizon from German developers Daedalic Entertainment? They’ve got not seventy, not minus six hundred, but three new point-n-clickers due over the next couple of years. Here thems are:
