Orion: Dino Horde Announced, Free To Beatdown Buyers

By Nathan Grayson on March 1st, 2013.

OK, that's nice, but can we put people heads on dinosaurs?

Orion: Dino Beatdown was the best-named of all the videogames. Unfortunately, it then had to go and ruin that by being very glitchy and generally un-fun to, you know, play. That in mind, Spiral wants you to consider Orion: Dino Horde both a) an apology and b) a, er, finished product. It seems like more or less what they were aiming for with Beatdown, and thankfully, they’re making it free to everyone who purchased the first prehistoric jetpack blaster. “This is the sequel to Dino Beatdown and you receiveing it for free shouldn’t even be a question on anyone’s mind. We are extremely sorry about falling short on our first release and the problems you may have experienced,” Spiral wrote. Details and a couple trailers after the break.

Anachro-tastic: Orion: Dino Beatdown Savages Steam

By Nathan Grayson on May 5th, 2012.

So videogames, pretty much.

Update: This game is apparently horrifically buggy and mired in mud-slinging controversy. Fun! A patch is allegedly on the way for one of those things, but it hasn’t dropped yet. In the meantime, if anyone with (or formerly with) Spiral would like to talk about, well, anything (including favorite colors, sports teams, or breakfast mascots), please get in touch. Just email me via the address in my byline.

Original article: “The game is out April 20th.” We said that about co-op jetpack blaster Orion: Dino Beatdown, and then it didn’t happen. Distraught, I tossed and turned night after night fearing the worst. Before long, I started putting up posters that read “Have you seen/been killed by this T-Rex” around my city and openly bursting into tears anytime I heard the Jurassic Park theme. Two weeks passed. I became almost certain that Dino Beatdown had scampered into the middle of the road and gotten hit by an errant meteor. My heart sank into the briniest depths of my chest at the mere thought. But then: hope. A Steam listing celebrating a May 4th release - with a four-pack option, no less. D’aaaaw, it had babies. That explains everything. Well, actually, no, but a recent trailer does. So fearfully grip your gun and venture into this post’s thickest word jungles to check it out.

Orion: Dino Beatdown Has Classes, Beaten Dinosaurs

By Jim Rossignol on April 18th, 2012.

I’d inadvertently left some Beefheart playing when I unmuted my speakers to have a listen this trailer, below. The effect was quite beautiful. Or perhaps I’ve not had enough sleep. Another thing, the name “Orion: Dino Beatdown” really doesn’t seem quite right to me. I mean, Orion looks like Tribes mated with a Jurassic Park movie licence anyway, but the name sort of doubles that: half serious sci-fi, half 1980s dinosaur platformer. Perhaps that’s appropriate. Hm.

The game is out April 20th.

Dino Might: Orion Gets A Release Date, Trailer

By Craig Pearson on March 29th, 2012.

Peccccccccck!
Co-operative, open-world sci-fi dinosaur hunting game Orion: Dino Beatdown is strapping into its jetpacks for an April the 20th release date. After watching the trailer below I just hopped onto Google Calendar and made sure I had nothing planned for that day – just some lump thing in my brain needed removal on that day. I soon got rid of that. What smells of burning, btw? Anyway: I also added “Sleepover with the Timothy Olyphant” to my girlfriend’s calendar to make sure I’m not disturbed. I love Trespasser and I take my dinosaur hunting VERY seriously. I am the Bob Peck of RPS.

Jurassic Jetpacks – ORION: Dino Beatdown

By Adam Smith on February 20th, 2012.

I’m in two minds about this multiplayer shooter from the ORION: Prelude team that somehow isn’t ORION: Prelude. Is ORION: Dino Beatdown a brilliant name for a game, or is it a horrible name for anything? One thing I do know, despite the laudable presence of dinosaurs and jetpacks, I’d be a lot happier if the dinosaurs were actually using the jetpacks. As it is, this is a game of cooperative shooting in which teams of men must survive in massive environments populated by hordes of hungry monster-lizards. And despite my quibbling, it looks pretty damn good.
