Impressions: Game of Thrones: Genesis

By Adam Smith on October 6th, 2011.

The throne seems sturdy, at least

There has been interest in Genesis, this game of A Game of Thrones, mostly because people like the source material, whether in book or telemotion format, but after a few hours of play I can confidently say that this is not the experience to do the license justice. An initially refreshing sense that I might be playing something boardgamey and diplomatically enthralling was soon replaced with a sense of almost complete apathy. And I tried, I really did.

Byte vs Brick: Week Ending Oct 1

By Alec Meer on October 3rd, 2011.

Hello, nurse. You *are* a nurse, aren't you?

And again! A not entirely industry-representative yet unquestionably fascinating/depressing look at what comprised the top ten PC game sales for Steam compared to UK retail over the last week. Will The Sims’ dominance of retail continue unabated? (Obviously). Will there be any surprise returns to the Steam top ten? (Yeah, actually). Read on to find out the answers to both these questions and more, as long as those questions concern the chart-placing of contemporary PC games. If you want to find out the answer to what the Queen had for breakfast this morning or where Muammar Gaddafi is hiding, I really cannot recommend reading the rest of this post.

A Clot Of Colons: Game of Thrones: Genesis

By Adam Smith on September 22nd, 2011.

there are a lot of smiths in the world
From what I can gather, people waited decades for the most recent book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. In comparison, Cyanide Studios’ RTS take on Mr R R Martin’s world, A Game of Thrones: Genesis, has burst into existence with stunning alacrity. Screenshots have emerged, showing glowering men in armour and maps with recognisable landmarks on them, such as The Wall, which isn’t a prog rock album but an actual wall that’s covered with ice. I know that because I’ve read the first book. Now, just one week before release, there’s a trailer for the game. Watch it below.

A Date For A Game Of A Game Of Thrones

By John Walker on September 7th, 2011.

I'm not going to chop you. I'm going to chat for 390 hours about my pet dog.

Cyanide’s A Game Of Thrones: Genesis finally has a release date. The RTS set in George R. R. R. R. R. Martin’s grumpy world will be with us this very month, on the 29th. Being a strategy game, clearly I’d have to receive an odd number of bumps to the head to play it, but were I to I would insist on only ever making honourable decisions, no matter how frequently this led to my entire family getting enslaved and murdered and everyone’s heads getting chopped off. Because Boromir says that’s how it should be. Which interestingly is almost something the game offers. You can see some new screenshots below, too.

A Game Of A Game Of Thrones: New Screens

By John Walker on July 12th, 2011.

A throne of games.

It’s International George R. R. Martin day today, of course, with the whole world taking a holiday to read his latest book, A Dance With Dragons, which incidentally is a terrible title. So while you’re wearing your A Song Of Ice And Fire t-shirt, petting your wolf cub, and waggling swords, you should also check out the new screenshots from Cyanide’s game based on the first book, A Game Of Thrones: Genesis.

A Game Of Thrones: Genesis Will Fight Dirty

By Quintin Smith on May 12th, 2011.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to have sex with a prostitute and spawn a dozen bastards who will proceed to ruin your life.

Cyanide Studios, the French developers behind Blood Bowl and Pro Cycling Manager (I imagine them sat at their desks, stained with blood and sweat in equal measure) have just fired a salvo of intriguing new details on A Game of Thrones: Genesis, their real-time strategy game set in the world of George R. R. Martin’s wily, waspish fantasy novels. Looks like an ordinary RTS, right? Well, it turns out we can look forward to everything from bribery and ransoming to marraiges and assassinations, there’ll be a focus on backstabbery and even a need to hide your bastard sons. More after the jump.

A Game of Thrones: Genesis Screenshots

By Quintin Smith on February 16th, 2011.

Fancy a tic-tac?

Whoa. Cyanide Studios, them of Blood Bowl fame, are releasing a fantasy strategy game based around George R.R. Martin’s unspeakably excellent A Song of Ice & Fire novels this summer. I did not know this. Apparently Big Download did, and remained as cool as a cucumber posting these first two screenshots. I hope that one day RPS will be as cool as Big Download. Until then: EEEE! And also: Hang on…
