Aieeeeeeeeee War: Arcen Games In Pain

Tricky to know how best to approach this kind of thing, but quite frankly just getting on with it is only sensible. What’s happened is that Arcen Games, who make awesomely clever strategy games such as AI War – the source of the ‘Quinns doesn’t have enough iron meta-gag’ and a much-loved AAR that we hope to reboot in the not too distant – and the smart casual title Tidalis, are struggling to make ends meet.

Like, really properly actually horribly struggling. “To put it bluntly and briefly, at present we’re only bringing in about one half of the minimum money we need to survive as a company,” quoth bossguy Chris Park. Help them.

Enterprising Starships: AI War Updates

Seems RPS’ noble attempts to stage a cross-continental conquest of the galaxy in the utterly splendid indie 4X game AI War is now threatened by more than our innate inability to organise ourselves. The lovely thing has just enjoyed a substantial new patch, which improves the game (and its graphics) in all kinds of ways, but likely means our savegames are now redundant. Back to the cosmic drawing board!

Officially Unintelligent: AI War Versus RPS Part 1

When I blogged about AI War’s demo, an idea struck me. It’s eight players co-op mass-scale space-RTS against apparently only of the most vicious AIs yet seen in gaming. Could we get enough people together to have an eight player game? No, we couldn’t. Seven? No. Six? No. Five? No. Four? No. Two? No. One? No. But three? We totally managed a three-player game. So Quintin, Alec and myself gathered one afternoon to start a battle for the future of humanity against an unrelenting evil AI. Nothing would ever be the same again, except for all the things that were totally unchanged.
