Air Buccaneers Sale & The Last Saga of Atland

By Jim Rossignol on December 21st, 2012.

It seems pretty clear to me that “ludicrous hot air balloon battles with flame-cannons and grappling-hook boarding actions” needs no exposition or back-story, but Air Buccaneers has a rather amusing one anyway. Finnish developers Ludocraft send word that their story trailer (and presumably new game intro) has appeared, and you can watch that below. It’s time to coincide with a Christmas sale over the Steams, where the game is a threesomely 33% off. I’m not saying you should buy it, but you should play it. And if you buy it, that will help with that.

Okay!

By Jim Rossignol on September 20th, 2012.

Our favourite Finnish fantasy dirigible combat game, Air Buccaneers HD, has appeared on Greenlight. Developers Ludocraft hope that the community – which can already play the alpha version for free – will support their game and buy into supporting the finished version. It’s a fantastic, unique thing, and I demand that you try it.

Also, I formally request that you view the new gameplay trailer and Mac-footage videos, below.

Air Buccaneers Now Boasts Octopi Air Ballooning

By Jim Rossignol on August 24th, 2012.

The Air Buccaneers remake continue apace, and Ludocraft wanted to let us know that it now features terrifying air-tentacles, with Octopus-based airships making war on each other in the misty skies of their peculiar world. Yes, that’s right, you can see the tentacular dirigibles blasting each other with bombards in the latest trailer, below. Yes, those crazy Ludofolk are clearly having fun with this remake of the classic mod. You can have fun with it too, because it’s currently available to play for free.

Anyone playing this? I am wondering if we need to organise an RPS game. Skyctopi below.

Buoyant: Air Buccaneers HD New Alpha And XP Challenge

By Jim Rossignol on March 23rd, 2012.

Few things fill me with as such intense delight as light-than-air combat, and Air Buccaneers is the leading balloon in that race. The delicious remake continues apace, with a new version of the “playable Alpha” available to download, and a chance for free-account folks to win additional premium accounts for themselves in a new challenge. Ludocraft explain: “Today we’ll launch a new, unique 10,000 XP Challenge campaign. During this campaign, players with free accounts can redeem themselves a free Alpha activation key for AirBuccaneers if they manage to gather 10,000 experience points in two weeks. Time starts to run when player logs in to the new 0.45 version for the first time after today. This campaign is valid through April 2012.” Premium accounts secure a copy of the finished game, and get some extra in-game items such as shields and er… birds? Yes.

Trailer below decks!

Morning: Gorgeous Air Buccaneers HD Footage

By Jim Rossignol on March 14th, 2012.

We do like a bit of balloon war, and few games do that as proficiently as the awesome Air Buccaneers HD. The game’s alpha version is now available on a but-and-try basis, and the work in progress has been documented in a recently video, which you can see below. It certainly looks fine. Mysteriously, devs Ludocraft promise something special for next week, but won’t say what it is. Hmm.

“Summon the Old God, Väinämöinen, to the battlefield.”

By Jim Rossignol on February 15th, 2012.

So. You might recall that I asked what the hell was going on in the last Air Buccaneers HD trailer. Ludocraft have taken some time to explain: “The Last Song of Väinämöinen is the most devastating weapon of mass destruction ever seen in video gaming history. The player can summon the Old God, Väinämöinen, to the battlefield. Once summoned Väinämöinen ascends onto the battlefield and starts to play the Last Song with his Kantele (Traditional Finnish instrument.) made from the jawbone of giant pike. As Väinämöinen plays his song, the crust of the earth shatters, trees burst into flames, rivers boil away and ultimately the whole universe collapses on itself. And then there’s only silence.”

And then there’s only silence.

By Jim Rossignol on February 9th, 2012.

Air Buccaneers Fan Vs Dev Skybattle, Ahoy!

By Jim Rossignol on February 4th, 2012.

While I normally count myself as a member the family of rigorous implacable impartiality that makes up the ranks of the International Games Press Corps, I will definitely be on the side of fans in the upcoming battle Air Buccaneers Fan vs Dev conflict, which is taking place in the new alpha build of Air Buccaneers HD. Ludocraft report that: “The battle will start at 18:00 o’clock GMT+2 time on next Thursday, February 9th. We will be playing on the Official LudoCraft Server and we’ll be using the latest Pre-Alpha version of the game.”

I’ll bring the hot air. You can carry the cannonballs.

Air Buccaneers HD Floats Towards Commerce

By Jim Rossignol on January 28th, 2012.

Ludocraft send word that they have opened the shop for Air Buccaneers HD, allowing you to get permanent access to the alpha and all the builds beyond that. They are also following a “benefactor” (ie Kickstarter) model which allows you to contribute more for some additional bonuses and early adopted stuff that won’t be obtainable later on by anyone.

There’s a new version of the alpha up, too. We’ll get an RPS server set up for this next week. Trailer belowdecks!

Air Buccaneers HD Is Full Of Hot Air

By Jim Rossignol on January 21st, 2012.

Behold! A trailer for the Air Buccaneers HD remake has just floated into view. Blast it from the skies of perception by engaging it with your eyes, or something. It shows the scale of the new game, and also how faithful it seems to be to the original mod. I am genuinely excited about this – we’ll have to organise some more RPS games as the development progresses. It’s not quite clear how far along things are, as they’re still describing it as an alpha, but hopefully they’ll hit beta soon.
