There are videogaming BAFTAs. I wouldn’t know, since BAFTA have never invited me to anything. WHAT AM I? CHOPPED GAMES JOURNALIST LIVER? It appears they happened last night, and games won awards. Which games? Which awards? I’ll grudgingly tell you now.

BAFTAs 2012: Portal 2 Takes The Prize

Man, that is one creepy little gold face.

The British Academy Video Game Awards took place on Friday night and Portal 2 was awarded highest honours, taking home little gold faces not only for Best Game, but also for Story and Design. Congratulations to Valve, who by this point must be making plans to put up some new shelves of award-bearing load strength. The popular vote went to Battlefield 3, which also won awards for Online Multiplayer and Audio Achievement.

Your Invite To Tonight’s Gaming BAFTAs

Are you winking at me?
Are you eager to see people from the games industry in clothes that don’t look like they’ve been put through the ‘grey and rumpled’ cycle of the washing machine? Because this is your chance! Tonight is the industry BAFTA awards, and even if you weren’t invited (AHEM!) you can still join in the crushing disappointments and the victorious thrills by observing the livestream. This year it’s once again being hosted by Irish joke-talker Dara O Briain, and it’s expected Notch will be there to pick up his BAFTA Special Award in Persson. Ahem.

Gongs: BAFTA Video Game Award Winners

Games had their BAFTAs tonight – the British equivalent of the Oscar (in the same way as Diggerland is the British equivalent of Disney World) – and prizes were awarded. It’s super-fabbo that BAFTA recognises games in this way. As much as I’ve written stupid things all the way through this, it’s a mark of legitimacy that is welcome. But who won what, you demand to know, slamming your fist down on the table, scaring a child. For goodness sake, calm down. They’re below.
