By John Walker on July 31st, 2013.

Splash Damage have just announced that they are to be creating the multiplayer for Batman: Arkham Oranges. The sequel is due out on the 25th October, which is two days before my birthday – PUT IT IN YOUR DIARY NOW – and it seems will have the pro team ensuring that going online is worthwhile.

Batman: Arkham Originsss – Copperhead Slithers To Town

By Nathan Grayson on July 20th, 2013.

She is going to give you the angriest hug

Look, it’s Copperhead! You remember Copperhead, don’t you? You know, the guy in the ridiculous outfit that makes it look like he’s a rat with his toes wedged in a snake’s rib cage and wait that’s not a guy at all. Yes, it seems that Armature has been inspired by Copperhead’s New 52 makeover, so the nefarious contortionist is a she now. Which is great, except she’s hardly wearing anything because videogames. And comic books. The two mediums are pretty chummy on that one. Sigh. But, if nothing else, a new Batman: Arkham Origins trailer makes her seem pretty capable, slipping around Batman like a hundred slippery nooses and rendering his combat skills moot. Have a look and see what you think.

Batman: Arkham Oranges Features Punching, Glowering

By Alec Meer on June 12th, 2013.

fwwoh lookmph itmph's fwwuhBwane

Batlike Man, Batlike Man, does slightly similar things to what a bat can. Hits a guy, in the face, catches thieves just like slightly less proficient fighters. Look out! Here comes another origin story for the Batlike Man!

Batman: Arkham Origins Trailer Still Shows No Game

By Craig Pearson on May 20th, 2013.

Well, my cynicism was WELL placed [engage smug mode]. After staring at the teaser trailer for the new Batman: Arkham Origins and grumpily reporting that it provided no game footage, I’d hoped Warner Bros. would sneak in a few moments of in-game action somewhere into the full trailer. Nope, they instead created a CGI story and fight sequence that stretches to nearly five minutes. It’s Batman, goons, Deathstroke, and Black Mask. At least it provides a little bit of context this time, and there are a few screenshots to coo over now.

Don’t Bother With The Batman: Arkham Origins Teaser

By Craig Pearson on May 16th, 2013.

Reading this alt-text will probably be more worthwhile than watching that teaser. Honestly, advertising! If you're going to take up valuable time, at least make it worth the effort. Reward us for the time we engaged in your silly little attempt to open our wallets. Yes, I'm talking about cat pics. If this was just a Windows Movie Maker video of cat pics with midi music, and the ending said: 'come back for the proper trailer next week', it would be better than what you made.
What can you do in 41 seconds? Clean answers only, please. I ask because that’s the length of the first Batman: Arkham Origins trailery thing, and your time might be better spent elsewhere. You could clean out a dirty nail, or pick your nose, or maybe check that you flushed the toilet the last time you were in there. If you’re determined to watch it, let me quickly break down what you’re about to see: if, say, you wanted to ignore the logos then you’d be down to 11 seconds of footage of Batman fighting new series villain Deathstroke. And if you only wanted to see in-game footage, then the trailer would be exactly zero seconds long. Of course, they’ll argue it was a teaser trailer, and that the full trailer is out on May 20th. In which case I’ll actually have to add those days to my count, which means that this trailer is minus 345641 seconds long.

Heavy Hitter: Batman: Arkham Origins Gallery

By Craig Pearson on May 10th, 2013.

My brain’s reaction to Batman is to remix the music from the TV show, the Tim Burton movie, and the U2 song. Oh look, there are some new Batman: Arkham Origins screenshots! Sigh. That’ll be in there for the rest of the day now. What if I can’t get it out? What if it lodges in there, and the inevitable happens and I turn mad and, because mental illness and villainy seem to go hand-in-hand in the Batman universe, evil? Mashup sounds like a good name for a bad guy: I’ll create music from the bones of other songs. My choons will be so layered that people will be driven insane attempting to unravel each element. They won’t realise that I’ve made my music from an infinite number of songs, trapping them in a hypnotic appreciation of my DJ skills forever. I’ll replace the Bat Signal with a Winamp visualiser, and all of Gotham will be trapped by my phat beats, and my sidekicks DubStep and Autotune will steal their wallets.

Bruce Begins, Conroy Ends: Arkham – Origins Gallery

By Adam Smith on April 30th, 2013.

We all love origin stories here at RPS. Who could forget Doom: Origins, in which it was revealed that Doom Guy’s actual name was Wallace Burgerstance, a man born from the unholy union of a lady Archvile and a nervous sprite-faced man? And what better example of the form can there be than Half Life: Origins – who could have guessed that the G-Man was both Gordon’s MIT post-grad professor and his brother from another dimension? Arkham: Origins may not tickle our fancy in the same way though because it is out of Rocksteady’s steady hands, doesn’t have Kevin Conroy’s Batman voice and actually exists. Let’s have less Origins and more Oranges. Loads of screenshots below.

Back In Bat: Arkham Origins Does Year One, Sort Of

By Alec Meer on April 9th, 2013.

Dammitall! Here we were, hoping the next Batman game would be a gloriously silly, super-colourful Silver Age tale, but instead it looks to be more grimdark Nolanism. I mean, that’s fine, but we’ve done it twice already. Don’t wear it out, as Michelle Pfeiffer once said about her name to Michael Keaton. ‘Tis not to be – Batman: Arkham Origins is the next game, Rocksteady are no longer at the helm and the calendar has rewound to Bruce Wayne in his youth. Despite my arrogant suppositions a couple of sentences ago, that’s all we really know and it could yet turn out to be anything. Doesn’t seem like they’re avoiding evoking the style and tone of the earlier Arkhams, mind, and they’ll also be using the same engine. It’s “current-gen” so that may mean we don’t get the shiniest of all possible shines, but more positively they’re hinting at depicting Gotham City as a “functional city”, not a mere puzzleplace.
