Pugilistic Planets: Battle Worlds – Kronos Out Now

By Adam Smith on November 5th, 2013.

Battle Worlds: Kronos isn’t about planets wot punch one another, which is a mighty shame, but, as it’s a turn-based strategy game that seems to have been plucked from my teenage years, I can forgive it. Some people can’t resist sad ol’ puppy dog eyes, but me? My heart melts whenever I see a hex. Kronos is out today and there’s a launch trailer to celebrate the fact. King Art reckon the two solo campaigns will last around thirty hours and there’s cross-platform multiplayer for dessert. I’m hoping to play later today, although there’s a hungry pack of games barking for my attention and snapping at my heels. Only one of them has hexes though. D’awwww. Just look a them (in the launch trailer below)!

Worlds Wot War: Battle Worlds – Kronos

By Adam Smith on October 29th, 2013.

Battle Worlds: Kronos has had a quick turnaround, from healthy Kickstarter campaign to finished product. The Kickstarter launched in March, a feature-packed beta for backers was delivered in Autumn and the game will launch on November 4th. The name recalls Blue Byte’s Battle Isle series, but as I learned when I spoke to the developers, their game draws inspiration from all manner of turn-based strategy:

…while the name of the game is clearly a nod to Blue Byte’s great series, there is a lot of games we draw inspiration from when it comes to TBS, like Advance Wars or the SSI classics Panzer General, Fantasy General and so on.

Not a bad roster of support units. The latest video shows the multiplayer features, which include hot-seat, cross-platform and asynchronous play. It’s looking very solid but I’m not convinced that the chap playing on his iPad in the video is actually on a bus, as the voiceover suggests.

Turn-Based Tattle: Battle Worlds – Kronos Interview

By Adam Smith on March 25th, 2013.

Battle Worlds: Kronos has almost reached its $120,000 Kickstarter goal with more than a month to spare. It’s the kind of game that is ideally suited to the crowdfunding platform – a turn-based strategy game that references the likes of Battle Isle, simultaneously exciting people like me, and causing publishers to purse their lips and tighten their purses. I spoke with Jan Theysen, co-founder and Creative Director of KING Art, to learn more about the company’s approach to crowdfunding, Battle Worlds history and the game itself.

Isles Of Thunder: Battle Worlds – Kronos

By Adam Smith on March 21st, 2013.

KING Art Games wrote the Walker-approved adventure Book of Unwritten Tales but they believe that pointing and clicking can be used for more than puzzles and conversation. There’s another genre close to their hearts and that’s where Battle Worlds: Kronos enters:

The time wasn’t right for a resurrection of classic turn-based strategy, but now we believe the world is ready.

Having watched the Kickstarter video, I do believe I am ready and you may find that you are too.
