Exodus Exited: Space Dogfighter The Battle Of Sol Out Now

Games I dearly want to go back to but am entirely convinced cannot live up to my fond memories? Space sim Freelancer is right there at the top of the list. Shallow oik that I am, I crave maximum beauty from my interstellar fantasies, and while I don’t particularly get along with Elite: Dangerous as a long-term endeavour, for noodling around in stunning space it’s hard to beat. Poor old Freelancer is far more accessible and immediate, but no, its time has passed. Maybe, just maybe, the recently-released Battle of Sol could offer some slightly more modern space dogfighting.

You may, however, have experienced it before, when it was on Early Access under the name Exodus Of Sol, which was itself a remake of 2012’s SOL: Exodus. Do try and keep up, 007.

Reduxing On Early Access: Exodus Of Sol

Exactly now may not be the best time for another space sim to go into early access. Elite entered Beta this week and Star Citizen is still consuming wallets at an unimaginable pace. Between those and the swarms of smaller projects that have launched or started development in the past couple of years, you’ve got plenty of options for your spacecash. Bit Planet Games are giving it a shot anyway with Exodus of Sol, a remake of 2012 space-blam SOL: Exodus. They’re looking to improve along the lines that Adam suggested but I’ve got my doubts.

Extra Sol, Huh? Exodus of Sol Revamps SOL As New Game


Cast your mind back, if you can, to the year 2012. Our young eyes (clear of cataracts) watched the skies eagerly for the next great space game, unaware that Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous, and so many more were soon to be announced. In that distant year, a more innocent Adam played space shooter SOL: Exodus and, finding it fun for a bit though wonky, wondered where the developers might take pew-pew spaceships next. Turns out, er, the answer is back to SOL.

What’s described as the “core development team” is now revamping and expanding SOL: Exodus, planning to release it as a new game under the sure-to-be-a-bit-confusing name Exodus of Sol.
