Brothers Disarmed: Furious 4 Now Its Own Thing

By Alec Meer on September 3rd, 2012.

It probably doesn't even look like this anymore, does it?

I’ve never entirely understood the outrage that Gearbox’s Tarantino-esque shooter Furious 4 was tagged as a splinter cell of their rather more sober World War 2 franchise Brothers In Arms, but perhaps I’m just not in tune with the common upset-on-the-internet man. Regardless, those who decided that F4 was surely a replacement for rather than an off-shot of BIA will doubtless be relieved to hear that its contentious prefix has been removed. This ultra-violent, parodical take on World War 2 will no longer be deemed a Brothers In Arms game. To further sweeten this new deal, Gearbox have been hinting that news on a new BIA game proper is inbound.

Brothers In Arms: Furious Four Still Alive, Has “Evolved”

By Nathan Grayson on July 10th, 2012.

By 'evolved,' he of course means that Gearbox will soon unveil Brothers In Arms: Four Fast, Four Furious, the most realistic WWII-era street racer the world's ever seen.

If a big-budget, trumpeted-to-the-high-heavens sequel goes silent for more than a year, that usually means one of three things: 1) It’s been canned, 2) It’s been significantly reworked, or 3) It was never real at all, you only imagined it, and you are – in reality – straight-jacket-straining mad. I was absolutely certain Brothers In Arms: Furious Four was a case of the third thing, but according to Gearbox, it’s actually the second. And I guess I believe those guys. Now could someone help me out of this straight jacket?

BIA Furious 4: First Screenshots

By Jim Rossignol on June 9th, 2011.

I’ve posted a gallery of screenshots from the recently-announced Brothers In Arms Furious 4, below. I suspect you might want to take a look after the surprising CG announcement trailer from earlier in the week. The gallery shows chainsaws, blood, jetpacks, lightning powers, mohawks, and blood.

All this images can be clicked for full size.

Brothers In Arms Furious 4 A “Test Bed”

By Jim Rossignol on June 9th, 2011.

According to this article on Giant Bomb, Gearbox are saying that the original, serious story for Brothers In Arms might not be over, and that the wacky craziness evident in the Furious 4 trailer is simply a “test bed” for a new direction. The tale of staff sergeant Matthew Baker, on which the earlier parts of the franchise were based, is apparently set to continue. Perhaps when we’ve finished our long facepalm regarding Furious 4? Something like that.

Phew, maybe.

Different: Brothers In Arms Furious 4

By Jim Rossignol on June 6th, 2011.

HAHAHA NAZIS DIE FUNNY.
It sounds like the relatively austere Brothers In Arms series is moving away from its more realistic beginnings into a realm of CRAZY ACTION, with today’s announcement from Ubisoft: “Set in World War II, Brothers in Arms Furious 4 is a brutal first person shooter that offers an exciting campaign mode playable with up to four players in co-op, as well as an extensive competitive multiplayer mode. The story follows four fierce and fearless warriors tracking the Führer himself. As one of the Furious 4, players will use special weaponry and unexpected combat abilities to fight the greatest threat the world has ever faced: an experimental Nazi army conceived in secret by the Third Reich.” Experimental Nazi army? Could it have a… Robo-Hitler? Quite possibly, judging by the zany mutilation-happy bar-brawl in this CG trailer.

The game is being developed by Gearbox and released in the “first half” of 2012.
