This Isn’t Call Of Duty’s Live Action Trailer

By John Walker on November 7th, 2011.

Oh piss off.

There’s a new live action trailer for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. However, first of all, I’ve had enough of live action trailers for games. Secondly, it’s embarrassingly rubbish. So instead, below, you can watch Oliver Sacks giving a lecture on hallucinations.

Man Down: COD Elite PC Delayed

By Alec Meer on November 4th, 2011.

No sir, wearing a wetsuit does not classify you as 'elite.'

Elite, the social network/video-making/DLC-flogging wrapper for Call of Duty due to launch with Contemporary Fighting Techniques 3 next week, won’t be turning up on PC at the same time as the game itself. Why? It’s because you’re so insecure. And so you should be, with that nose. Oh, sorry, I’ve got it wrong – it’s because the devs think the PC’s insecure. That’s not an insult, calm down. They’re just worried about cheaters hacking the system: the precious statistics must be protected!

Modern Warfare 3 Will Launch At Some Point

By John Walker on October 25th, 2011.

Gosh, I can hardly control my disinterest.

There’s a launch trailer floating about – it’s been around for a few days now, but it’s still not out for another couple of weeks – for a game called Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Whatever that might be.

Modern Warfare 3: Steamworks, LAN, VAC, Etc

By Jim Rossignol on October 21st, 2011.

Try to look cool!
Infinity Ward have posted a heap of information regarding the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 over here. Highlights include some details on how the dedicated servers will work – “Dedicated Servers, allowing players to find and filter via an in-game server browser or set-up their own Dedicated Server for complete control, without being restricted by any 3rd party hosting requirements. If looking for a Dedicated Server to join, if you choose not to set up your own, you can filter and favorite by Ping, Map, Gametype, Hardcore Variants, Voice, Password, and many other options” (such as RCON) – and also graphics: “including enablingand disabling of new rendering features such as SSAO, you’ll also be able to modify DOF, Shadows, Anti-Aliasing, Texture Resolution and more.” It will have Steamworks integration, with VAC as the anti-cheat system, and will also support LAN play.

That is a lot of stuff!

New Modern Warfare 3 Shot Heralds QUIZ!

By John Walker on October 19th, 2011.

Hang on, are you from my game?

I’ve noticed a mistake that’s being made by a couple of publishers. EA and Activision both plan to release shooty-man games before Christmas, about some soldiers with some modern weapons having a big fight. One is called Battlefield 3 and the other Modern Warfare 3. But the weird thing is, the two companies keep taking potshots, saying their game isn’t like the other. But, see, they really do look like each other. I wonder if they’ve just not looked at the screenshots of their rivals’ game, or something. In fact, I’ve prepared you a quiz!

Modern Warfare 3 Is A Shooting Game

By Alec Meer on October 4th, 2011.

This man has the amazing power to shoot other men

Look, I don’t want this to be another groundhog day. I don’t want the comments thread to fill up with people going ‘Call of Duty is boring’ and then some other people saying “that’s just, like, your opinion, man.” I just want you to only bother watching this video of Modern Warfare 3′s ‘Spec Ops’ co-op mode if you honestly have a real interest in Modern Warfare 3. If you don’t, stop reading. Why are you still reading? You don’t even care! STOP READING. And don’t you dare comment. I can delete your words with a single button-click, you know.

MW3 Multiplayer: I Feel So Old

By Alec Meer on September 6th, 2011.

Yeah, I can't hear now either

Oh my word, I need a nap after this. I feel like an octogenarian who’s just been played a Lil’ Wayne record. It’s so noisy, so fast, so violent. COD multiplayer has become increasingly excessive over the years, and Modern Warfare 3′s looks as though it’s thrown in everything it can think of – it looks so very far away from simply sniping dudes in one-storey buildings. I can’t keep up with all that! I’d need to mod DX3′s invisibility aug into it, just so I can hide in the corner, terrified and weeping.

Call Of Duty: MW3 Allows Multiple Players

By Adam Smith on September 2nd, 2011.

It's all so modern
There’s a lot to be gleaned from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer World Premiere Trailer, though after typing out the cumbersome title I’m loathe to write anything else due to intense fingercramp. I’ll say this for it though: it manages to make combat look exciting, dramatic and bloody horrible, sometimes simultaneously. There’s lots of shooting, which I expected, lots of killing, which I also expected, but also large, spinning fuchsia dogtags, which I certainly didn’t expect. Admittedly, it is mostly man-shooting though. There’s evidence of all kinds of new as yet unexplained details, from strike packages to proficiency. What does it all mean? I’m going to say that men will use packages to strike other men in their proficiencies. Or some other combination of those words. You heard it hear first. Discuss and dissect below. Oh, and do look out for the particularly unpleasant Claymore-alike, the Bouncing Betty. Ouch.

Call of Duty: MW3 To Use Steamworks

By Jim Rossignol on August 29th, 2011.

This just came in from Valve: “The PC version of the product will be powered with Steamworks for both the digital and tangible versions of the game and, as with all Steamworks titles, offline play will also be supported along with Auto-Updating, Achievements, and more. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also support dedicated servers on day 1.”

Better, I suppose. The game is out November 8th.

Modern Warfare 3 To Have Dedicated Servers

By Jim Rossignol on August 17th, 2011.

Back in the mists of time there was this game called Modern Warfare 2, and it had a bit of a fling with the idea of not bothering to use dedicated servers on PC. This, as you might imagine, caused a bit of consternation among people who actually wanted to play the game in any sensible way. Fortunately for such people, it seems that this mistake won’t be repeated for the third iteration of the series. Speaking to Eurogamer, Beachhead’s Noah Heller said: “The big announcement today is that we’re supporting dedicated servers for PC, which is really cool.” Hooray! “And of course we’re working really hard right now on the customised version of Elite for the PC [versions of Call of Duty games], because it’s an open platform and has some challenges.” Mmm.

Modernised: COD:MW3 Spec Ops Trailer

By Jim Rossignol on August 9th, 2011.

He's off to shoot some men. What have YOU done today?
How about this, then, man-shooting fans? Over two Imperial minutes (count ‘em!) of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3′s Spec Ops survival mode can be found below, via BluesNews. What is it? Well, I dunno. Let’s say it’s some kind of escalating fight mode, with its own perks and stuff, featuring lots of different opponents: dogs, men, men, men, big armoured men.

Big. Armoured. Men. So big. So armoured. So shootable. Mmm.

Activision Announce Call Of Duty Convention

By Quintin Smith on June 30th, 2011.

This could be you! Just imagine trainers poking out of the bottom of the trousers.

Ye Gods. Activision has announced Call of Duty XP 2011, a convention for Call of Duty fans taking place in Los Angeles on September the 2nd and 3rd of this year. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg cheerily admits to the event being based on Blizzard’s yearly Blizzcon and says that it will allow CoD fans to “feel like you stepped into the game.”
