The Lighthouse Customer: Caribbean!

By Christopher Livingston on May 12th, 2014.

I'm not going to suddenly wake up in a Ubisoft office, right?

Each Monday, Chris Livingston visits an early access game and reports back with stories about whatever he finds inside. This week, sailing the low-res seas in sandbox RPG Caribbean!

I race across the open sea, bearing down on an English convoy. I have twice as many ships and nearly three times their crew, so this will be an easy kill, another feather in my tricorn hat. Or it would be, if my crew didn’t pick that precise moment to mutiny, seize control of one of my ships, turn and attack me instead of the English, board me, and pummel me into unconsciousness on my own deck. Pirates. If you can’t trust them, who can you trust?

Alpharrrrrr: Caribbean! Boards Steam Early Access

By Alice O'Connor on May 1st, 2014.

I'm calling ye out, ye lily-livered scallywag

The concept of ‘Mount & Blade with pirates and pirate ships’ is probably enough to sell a fair few people on a game, but what if that’s not enough? What if they need more? What if they demand razzmatazz? This problem calls for dramatic punctuation. Bang on an exclamation and bosh wallop, we have Caribbean! and the Internet falls over itself in excitement.

Snowbird’s piratical sandbox action-RPG has now hit Steam Early Access in alpha at £10.99.

Masters Of A Pirate World: Caribbean!

By Jim Rossignol on June 18th, 2013.

Eador devs Snowbird have started talking about their secondary project, Caribbean! which we mentioned all the way back here. That’s Caribbean! in the sense of Pirates! rather than me being particularly excited about it, you understand. Nevertheless it’s an hugely ambitious project, allowing people to tackle that region of the world in the 17th century in a manner similar to the way Mount & Blade tackles medieval Eurasia. They’ve had a bit of a struggle with the game, and explain: “Having started with ‘Mount & Blade with ships’ concept over time we almost switched to making a war and historical colonization simulator.”

The beta, which was previously flagged up on their forums, has bene much delayed, but is now likely to happen soon, and could be worth keeping an eye on. You can also play it at Rezzed(!) So that’s nice.

Parley Of The Land: Caribbean! Interview

By Adam Smith on August 9th, 2012.

Caribbean! is Mount and Blade with pirates, or at least that’s what I’d be telling everyone if I was making it. To learn more about what the game will actually include, how naval combat will be implemented and what kind of rum cocktails should be consumed while playing, I buried a list of questions in a treasure chest and gave a map marked with the location to producer Alexander Souslov. His responses, stuffed in a bottle, were floating in my bathtub this morning. Among other things, I found out that the governor’s daughter isn’t quite the catch I’d been led to believe.

Excitable Archipelagos: Caribbean!

By Adam Smith on July 2nd, 2012.

Games about pirates sometimes feel the need to exclaim their titles, as if rushing into a room and excitedly waving their arms, jumping up and down, screaming in your face. ‘Pirates’, they yell, spittle flecking your bewildered visage, ‘piiiiirates’! Or, in this case, they’re bellowing ‘Caribbean’, which makes it really hard for me to work out which vowel to elongate. I guess it would be ‘Caribbeaaaaaan’!. Anyway, Caaaaaribbean! is a newly announced game from Snowbird Game Studios of Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword, and it uses the same engine for a piratical game, with naval combat, boarding operations and sieges. More screenshots below.
