Happy Kitty, Cat Petting Simulator 2014, Purr Purr Purr

By Cassandra Khaw on November 9th, 2014.

I miss having cats. Four years ago, I left home and became a professional itinerant, leaving my felines in the care of rich strangers. Today, I am bereft of cats and so, you shouldn’t take me as an unbiased source when I say, “Oh, god. Cat Petting Simulator 2014 is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time.”

Lovecats: Mew-Genics First Footage Shows Rutting Moggies

By Alec Meer on January 14th, 2014.

Mew-Genics, the cat-breeding-based follow-up to Super Meat Boy, has been in development for almost a year and half – that’s almost a decade in cat years. Too long, too long! We’ll all be crawling under the nearest chest-of-drawers to die soon. At least we finally have some in-game footage to look at, even if it does take the form of an animated GIF. But given cats and GIFs are the bedrock of the internet, it is only appropriate.

Warning: cartoon cats shagging below. No feline winkies on show, though.

Pussy Galore: A Mew Genics Trailer

By Craig Pearson on September 2nd, 2013.

The biggest tragedy of my life is that I had to move into a building with a ‘no pets’ policy, which is an odd policy given that the landlord has let out flats to obvious criminals and a scary family with about seven angry people squashed into each room. But a purring furball? How dare I even contemplate such a thing! So I had to breed an invisible cat, which wasn’t too much trouble in the beginning. But I’ve not seen him for weeks and the house is starting to smell, so I’m beginning to worry. I got the idea of breeding cats, mutating them into genetic super cats, from Team Meat’s next game Mew Genics. A Crazy Cat Lady sim that allows you to breed ridiculous kitties, finding attributes you want to enhance and trying to balance out other problems. There’s a remarkable trailer below.

Jerkwad Cat Simulator: Catlateral Damage

By Nathan Grayson on August 26th, 2013.

Yes, I knocked down that television. Do not question it, or I will knock down your entire home.

True fact: I was raised by cats. True fact the second: my first word was “meow.” I’m not joking about that, either. Point is, I very much¬†get the cat mentality. I grew up around them, and I understand the tiny acts of terrorism they are capable of unleashing upon their small domestic worlds. And let’s face it: we, as humans, probably have it coming. I mean, how dare we ever leave the house or not be in a specific spot at an arbitrary time or not clean the litter box every 15 minutes or let the sun go down and ruin their sunbeam or pet them the wrong way or pet them the right way for too long? In these cases, the only answer is swift and frighteningly calculated retribution. Time for Catalateral Damage. Time to break some shit.¬†Poor, oblivious humans. How else will they learn?

Benchmark Your PC With Giant Cats And Dubstep

By Craig Pearson on January 16th, 2013.

STARING EYES.
The list of things cats can do: lick their genitals, preen, fight off bears, and benchmark your PC with dubstep. That last one is SO a thing. Remember those programs that would use pretty graphics and scenes of games that didn’t exist to test out how powerful your graphics card is? Well the best one ever has just come out. Allbenchmark’s Catzilla shows Godzilla-sized cats battling armies and each other. The video below is life changing.

Kitty Kharacters: Team Meat’s Mew-Genics Hints

By Alec Meer on November 5th, 2012.

Cats can't smile ACTUALLY

Four words all but guaranteed to win my attention: “a game about cats.” When said four words are twinned with the knowledge that the game in question comes from the creators of Super Meat Boy and one half of The Binding Of Isaac team, my attention becomes unwavering.

We know precious little about Team Meat’s Mew-Genics other than that it’ll be “randomly generated, strange and involve cats” so even a tiny, kitten-size scrap of detail is enough to cause a flurry of fluffy speculation. Today, that’s two new shots showing in-game characters.

Headshotter Well Good: Sniper Elite V2 Expands

By Alec Meer on October 19th, 2012.

Hey, that actually looks pretty great. I should probably play it instead of just indulgently posting cat photos

Rebellion’s Sniper Elite V2 was quite good but not great, wasn’t it? Come on, do my job for me, I’m tired. Also lazy. Also playing Retro City Rampage (WIT very soon) has fried my ability to concentrate on anything. Kill me, basically.

My point, if indeed I do have one, is that the quite good Sniper Elite V2 has some DLC, and hopefully that is quite good too.

Miaow Miaow: FreeIndieGames’ All-Cat Spectacular

By Alec Meer on June 25th, 2012.

RIP, Terry's cat https://twitter.com/terrycavanagh/status/215579417865490432

I live in fear – true, cold, debilitating terror – of my cat dying, even though she’s surely got anywhere from 5 to 10 years still left on the clock. These strange, joyful, fearful, psychopathic creatures can achieve such a hold on our lives and affections. Maybe it’s just the toxoplasmosis speaking, but young Ripley’s chirruping presence in my house makes for a tangible improvement of my days. So I can offer the most enormous condolences and sympathy to Distractionware’s Terry Cavanagh, whose long-term pet Thomas P. Cat passed away last week. Terry has offered the greatest of tributes to his dearly departed Tom – by swamping his ever-vital FreeIndieGam.es blog with over 20 weird and wonderful cat-based games.

Herd Cats, Farm Puppies: Minecraft 1.2

By Adam Smith on March 1st, 2012.

I will make cats and wolves live together in peace.

Minecraft 1.2 is here, bringing with it an assortment of features that made me go ‘awwww’, in that way that people do when they see an adorable baby animal playing with another baby animal of a different species. There’s a good reason for me to mention baby animals because, to my mind, the most important additions in this version are puppies, which tame wolves will occasionally receive from the ciconia lupus. Villagers will also create children occasionally. Ocelots and cats have also been added, along with a jungle biome, iron golems and a doubling of the maximum map height. Downward lie all the details and a trailer by the Hat Films chaps.

I Ain’t Afraid Of No Cat

By Alec Meer on February 12th, 2009.

As you’ve probably seen on various news sites that really should know better, tomorrow the streets of London will endure some feline-mounted advertising. Specially-trained black cats will stalk the pavements bearing FEAR 2-emblazoned jackets. The link? Well, tomorrow is Friday the 13th, the unluckiest day of the year. And black cats are also bad luck. And being superstitious is sort of like being afraid, and thus directly relevant to FEAR 2! Their plan is genius in its simplicity.

I’m really not impressed by this most tenuous of logic, so tomorrow I will lurk doggedly by my window watching out for one of these little frackers. When I see one, I’ll spring my scathing counter-attack…
