Da Ba Dee: BlueStreak Is Cliff Bleszinski’s F2P Arena Shooter

By Nathan Grayson on July 11th, 2014.

Cliff Bleszinski is a man who used to be called CliffyB, co-created Unreal and also invented the chainsaw gun, because videogames. Then he retired, but now he is unretired and returning to his roots. Except for the CliffyB part, at least so far as we know.

His new game, codenamed BlueStreak, will be an arena shooter with a modern (and F2P) twist. Nexon is publishing, and Bleszinski just fielded a bunch of questions about the game. Read the rest of this entry »

DevLog Watch: XenoRaptor, Citybound, Dwarf Fortress

By Graham Smith on April 7th, 2014.

How colourful videogames are. Even ASCII.

It’s Monday and, if you have the same system shocked headache as I do, you might find it comforting to peruse a selection of in-development games. There are videos, there are GIFs (but only one!), there are fine anecdotes. There are promises of a brighter future somewhere on the horizon. It’s videogaming ibuprofen.

Cyberdragons! Colour blindness! Dwarven rumours!

Back To Reality: Cliff Bleszinski Leaves Epic

By Nathan Grayson on October 4th, 2012.

I was going to start with “Well, this came out of nowhere,” but given that this year has also seen the doctors depart BioWare and Peter Molyneux pack his bags for the green pastures of indie-dom, it clearly didn’t. Cliff “Biff Cliszenski” Bleszinski has been the face of (and a major portion of the brains behind) Epic, Unreal, Gears of War, and – most famously – Jazz Jackrabbit for 20 years, but now he’s calling it quits. Meanwhile, Epic’s finally making a renewed PC push with Fortnite, so clearly, CLIFFY HAS ABANDONED US. As for what’s next, he’s not quite sure at the moment.

Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski Says New Devs Should Make For PC

By John Walker on March 9th, 2012.

Epic’s Cliffy “Cliffy B” Bleszinski B just told a huge crowd of developers at 2012’s GDC that when starting up a developer, forget Xbox Live, PSN, iOS, Android and Windows phones, and instead make games for PC. Condemning the way Microsoft and Sony treat indies, and dismissing mobile gaming, the Unreal developer said that the PC was the only place to start.

Scavengers Assemble: Fortnite

By Adam Smith on December 12th, 2011.

A Primark store prepares for the January sales

Fortnite’s reveal trailer suggested that the game could be borrowing ideas from Minecraft, Fort Zombie and Team Fortress 2, along with many other things. Now that details are beginning to emerge, Epic have admitted that Mojang’s block ‘em up was indeed an inspiration. Lead designer Lee ‘Unscratch’ Perry took time to broadcast the following messages through his personal Tweet-o-Tron: “Minecraft lets you build ANYTHING, we are focusing on constructing ‘buildings’ specifically”. A later tweet contained this: “Minecraft was an inspiration for sure”. With that out in the open, the obvious thing to do was to ensure Notch backed our demand that the game come to PC. A few more details about the game await below.

Mr B(ulletstorm): “We’re Big On Vistas…”

By Jim Rossignol on July 1st, 2010.

Me and Quintin met Cliff Bleszinski a few years ago. He was the only man in the room wearing leather trousers. This means something, I’m just not sure what. In other news: GT have grabbed a walkthrough of Bulletstorm with Mr B talking People Can Fly’s absurdo-shooter through (below). It contains a bunch more footage, with a rechargeable cyberbuddy, and some really lovely vistas. So that’s nice.

I was also amused to see this Bulletstorm news story over on VG247. That’s thinking outside the box, graphics fans. Clever stuff.
