Virtual Kisses: Valentine’s Day Events 2012

By Richard Cobbett on February 14th, 2012.

Love... well, it is expensive. Maybe I should invest in a bacon sandwich instead...

As RPS’ only painfully single person at the moment, I’m happy to inform you that Valentine’s Day is cancelled. A pox on all happy couples, literally and figuratively. Return to your empty, silent houses with the biggest bag of sweets you can, turn off the lights, and spend the evening sobbing until the sweet, sweet chocolate oozes out of your eyes and anus.

…or alternatively, jump into one of the many Valentine’s Day events taking place this week in assorted games. Almost anything with a cash shop will be running a sale, but many are running special events. (Though not all. DC Universe Online for instance scrapped the Valentine’s content it tried last year in favour of waiting until the team has the time to do something good instead.) Jump in with a loved one, or just celebrate Aching Solitude Awareness Day by ganking any of those pesky doting sweethearts who get too close. Like I care. Sob.

Clone Wars Adventures, However, Expands

By Jim Rossignol on December 16th, 2011.

Stun ray?
Presumably sucking the life-force from SWG in some way, SOE’s lightweight (and extraordinarily popular) Star Wars MMO for the youth, Clone Wars Adventures, has expanded this week to include open-world PvP, according to Massively. Players will apparently now be able to use the force on each other when they visit the planet Umbara, home of the Shadow People. What do the Shadow People think about all that? No one seems to have bothered to ask. There are a bunch of other new features for the game, too. Like the ability to jump. Heh.

Star [Minor Peril – Ed]: Clone [Argument – Ed]

By Alec Meer on September 15th, 2010.

SOE has today launched its Star Wars MMO Clone Wars Adventures, which becomes the second Star Wars virtual world, and thus neatly pips The Old Republic to the post. Aimed at the younger Star Wars audience that’s thrilled to the Clones Wars series, toys and official stationery – or so I understand it – it’s a free to play* mini-game-based place that appears to be roughly analogous to Free Realms. It being Star Wars, expect crowds despite the rugrat-orientation. Details below. To be honest, there’s a lot of promise from this – yeah, it’ll be free from the grown-up roleplaying that such as we might demand, but creating a bunch of (hopefully) engaging interactive contact from a virtual world that’s achieved some resonance with kids is no bad thing. Well, perhaps apart from that “massive amounts of cash to George Lucas” stuff.

Sign up here! Includes character customisation and stuff!

Clone Wars Adventures Open Beta

By Kieron Gillen on August 21st, 2010.

Surely training to fight with Light Sabres is a risky business?

The new free-to-play Clone Wars Adventure has just gone live. As in, open Beta where you can pop in and play. Since it’s in Beta there’s content unavailable – including the pay stuff, really – but the basic structure is there. And, as far as I can see, it’s basically a glorified chat-room (with dress up) and a whole load of mini-games you can play. In fact, while you can actually go to places in the world to start the games in an atmospheric fashion, it’s much easier to just press the play button and select from the list. It’s a fancy arcade, with you able to hop between Clone-Wars themed archetypal online games. For example, the sword-fighting is basically an Audition-clone, with whoever hammers out a sequence faster gets to win the clash-of-swords. The Tower Defence clone is probably my favourite so far, with the quality of others varying wildly. I did like the OTTP powering up of your guns in Starfighter when you get a combo going. Alas, the typing-game isn’t the Typing of the Dead… with Jedi thing you’d have hoped for. Anyway – you can sign up and play here or watch the new trailer with devs yabbering below…

Gene Pick-me: Clone Wars Adventures

By Kieron Gillen on June 2nd, 2010.

They're going to be robo-crazy
Marco Weigel noted we haven’t actually written anything about this. This is no longer true, a disease cured by writeitude. In short: it looks like they’re going to be two options for a free Star Wars MMO this year. Firstly, you can pirate a copy of The Old Republic and hack someone else’s account. Secondly, you can play Clone Wars Adventures. It’s a free-to-play MMO based around the Clone Wars animated malarkies, featuring pets, housing, mini-games and all that sort of thing. You can also choose to play a Jedi, a Padawan or a Clone Trooper. Why would anyone play a Padawan? It’ll be like a racing game giving you an option between playing a driver or someone learning to drive. Anyway, it’s out in fall this year, and here’s the trailer…
