The Flare Path: Fruit Of The Thorn

It’s blackberry time here in Upper Bumhope. Brimming punnets of fragrant fruit clutter kitchens and courtyards. Almost everyone you meet has indigo fingertips and scarred forearms. Finding villagers willing to gather simulation and wargame news at this time of the year isn’t easy but thanks to Gleaner, Gusto, and Ghast (FP’s trio of duraluminum-and-balsa reconithopters) I do, just about, have a column for you today. Anything interesting happened in Gameshire during the past seven days? I confess I’ve been so busy lusting after Naval Action, contemplating Combat-Helo’s changing fortunes, and toiling away on 50 Mission Candy Crush (My Operation Little Vittles wargame. The Flare Path: This One’s For Dobbs

October 18, 1923. While watching sycamore keys twirl from trees in a Kiev park, a young engineer called Igor Sikorsky has an extraordinary idea. What if rotary motion could be used to dry damp laundry. That evening over beer and mushroom broth in a local hostelry, Igor describes his idea to hard-of-hearing colleague Wolfgang Helicopter. The rest is history.
