The Making Of: The Conflict Series

Posted by Kieron Gillen on February 15th, 2008.

[With Conflict: Denied Ops running jokes reaching critical mass, I thought digging out this interview with Pivotal's Stuart Poole about the genesis and development of the series may be a good idea. It was done just before Conflct: Global Terror was released, but their mind were clearly on Next-Gen. It deals with both Desert games - which I think were neatly designed, actually - and the disappointing Vietnam.]

Men in a desert.

Pivotal rose from the ashes of Bath’s Pumpkin Studios, who made the ground-breaking Real-time strategy game Warzone 2100. Despite being the first true-3D RTS and receiving some of the best reviews of Eidos’ history, it was a commercial flop which killed the team. While being ahead of the curve can pay off handsomely, it can just as easily lead to disaster. What now?

Conflict: Denied Ops But Allowed Boobies

Posted by John Walker on February 15th, 2008.

As the reviews for Conflict: Denied Ops start to appear, things aren’t looking good for the shooter. A Metascore of 52 (on 360) doesn’t bode well, but it’s not nearly as forboding as the latest trailer (of so, so many) appears.

It’s a stag-do – phwoar! But there’s too many men in the way, and we can’t see the stripper – noes! Fortunately, through co-op, we can force our way to the front. Like, er, when you shoot people in the desert. Part of me clings to the idea that this might be a fake, and not from the promotional department of Eidos (it doesn’t appear on their own press site, but then nor do many of the other legit trailers). Be warned, the following clip contains nudity, and may well not be workplace-friendly.

Um, thanks Gametrailers?

Boy oh boy, makes you proud to be a gamer, doesn’t it?

A strap so good, we’ll use it twice.

Men with guns. Popular PC Gaming Trope #276

The just-shy-of-60 Imperial Peggle demo for the Pivotal’s forthcoming squad-based shooter is now available to play. Where is it available? On the internet, my friend. On the internet. It includes single-player and co-op and an installer, we reckon.
