Kotaku spotted this awesome piece of homemade costume-craft up for sale on Ebay. It’s a full Half-Life 2 Combine Metrocop outfit, which apparently even has a voicebox thing to make you sound even more like the game’s grumpy evil policemen. The reason for this authenticity is that it was a prop from a short movie, “The Combine Interview”, which - along with a closer look at the item itself - I’ve linked after the jump.

It’s currently bid for at $202.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R In The Realities

If you’re going to do cosplay, don’t dress up as some manga character with a purple sash - it’s too easy. If you’re going to do it, do it with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Thanks to Isaiah who sent us a link to this Russian site not only of STALKER fans taking the game into the real world at Chernobyl, but also some really fantastic photography. It’s well worth a look.

RPS Photojournalism(ish): Cosplay in the UK

So, yesterday I found myself in London. And, as you may have heard, there was a Guinness World Record attempt to set a record for the number of people dressed as videogame characters in one place. Since there wasn’t one before, it wasn’t exactly hard, but (er) a number of people (Gamespot report over eighty, but I heard both 85 and 86 bandied around) braved chilly weather to pose amusingly with each other.

Clearly, I took a load of photos of anyone who even vaguely looked like a PC game character.

PopCap And Portal, Sitting In A Tree

We received an excellent email from PopCap employee Anthony Coleman, showing us his Halloween costume.

Which really is rather extraordinary.

He explains,

“I made this over the past few nights out of ~85 square feet of ½ inch thick foam board. It is split horizontally into an upper and lower section. I had to do this so I could get it out of my house and fit it into the car. When complete it is a 30”x30”x30” cube that I can tuck myself completely inside of (that’s why I have the heart circle hat).”

The man’s a genius.

PC Gamer: Cosplaying Lara

A fun piece of nonsense I wrote for PC Gamer in the current issue’s Extra Life has gone online today. It’s a guide to cosplaying Lara in Tomb Raider: Anniversary. In the game, I mean. I’ll leave Kieron to write a guide to cosplaying as her in real life.

Anyway, it’s deeply silly and surprisingly fun. And yes, one of them has her in the nude. But she’s FAR cuter as a tiger.

Less Big Daddy, More Shirley Crabtree

Okay. We’ve had enough corporate evilness puncturing our happy-happy joy-joy over-excitement over the forthcoming Bioshock. Let’s have something to warm our hearts as we prepare ourselves for entering an art-deco hell.

(Don’t worry - the second we play it, we’ll start a too-cool-for-school It’s-not-all-that Backlash, because that’s the way we roll at Rock Paper Shotgun. We’re absolute cunts.)

Destructoid have been running a dress like Big Daddy compo. It’s over now, and the results have yet to be announced, but their members have been posting about their efforts.

Bless them.

Angels Don’t Burn manages to capture the horror and majesty of the Big Daddy using the ever-trusty Blue-Peter staples of Cardboard, Foil and a complete lack of embarrassment.

Agent Moo decides to disregard the cardboard and foil and just go heavy on the complete lack of embarrassment.

Genacon, to be honest, looks a bit like a rapist.

Finally Sazemaster is the person who is i) clearly going to win ii) probably has spent a bit too much time on this iii) will have everyone else who lives with them wondering where all the kitchen foil’s gone iv) The only one who appears to have got his girlfriend/sister to dress up as Big Daddy. And there’s jokes to be made here, but I’m not going to go for them. His Flickr page details the construction in heartwarming detail.
