Cheap And Fearful: Bundle Of The Damned

By Adam Smith on October 29th, 2012.

prepare for my cold embrace

Groupees have a bundle of Halloween gaming for your perusal. It’s actually more seasonal than the ongoing Indie Royale collection, primarily because this one contains a game called Manor of the Damned, which is exactly the sort of name Halloween entertainment should have. Psychological, nuanced horror is for every other day of the year. Disappointingly, Manor of the Damned is a retro ARPG rather than Realms of the Haunting for a new era. The standout is probably Cryostasis, which is an imaginative first-person chiller that will utilise its fancy ice effects and poor optimisation to bring your computer to its knees. Those can be yours for $1, but spend at least $4 and you’ll get more, as detailed below.

Ice Age Begins: Cryostasis Tech Demo

By Kieron Gillen on December 20th, 2008.

What do you mean 'I don't think a second date would be a good idea?'

This is quite interesting, if only because you don’t see many people do it anymore. 1C have released an almost 1-gig Vista techdemo of their forthcoming FPS/Survival-Horror boat-based Cryostasis. It’s a canned demo which walks you through the grin corridors of the boat where it’s set, and shows off some of its fancier engine elements. They’re particularly showing off the water and fabric modeling – the best of which comes towards the end. They show a number of different aspects of the game – your frozen, undead opponents, the dog sled, and some of the beautifully creepy ship interiors. Click on the letterbox images for the full sized shot.

Cryostasis Trailer

By Jim Rossignol on June 10th, 2008.

Cryostasis is one of the most promising Russian games currently in development, and publishers 1c know it. They were allowing hands-on play of the opening level at this year’s KRI (Russian’s GDC) in Moscow last month. Needless to say, I was there and… well, I’m going to preview this in some more depth in a the coming weeks, along with an interview from developers Action Forms. So let’s just take a look at that trailer for now. The Bioshock influence is strong here…

Coming In From The Cold: Cryostasis

By Jim Rossignol on January 24th, 2008.

505 Games send word that they’re going to be publishing the new Russian shooter Cryostasis later this year. The game is a horror FPS set in Arctic ice-cap, in which your character finds himself exploring the North Wind, an “old nuclear ice-breaker trapped in an icy grave.” As always, there’s a twist:

Alex is no ordinary meteorologist as he possesses a unique ‘Mental Echo’ ability that allows him to relive the final memories of the dead and change their actions in the past, changing their future.
